1933 - 2014 Obituary Condolences
Nanjean G. Straubel, 80

Nanjean Straubel, 80, of Lafayette, passed away on March 28, 2014, after a long courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her family. She was born in Elgin, IL on June 28, 1933. Nan graduated from Elgin High School and attended the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, majoring in vocal and organ performance. During her life, Nan had been a church organist and a choir director and worked as a secretary for several hospitals and businesses. She was a master at the game of bridge, and loved spending time with friends. She loved to sing and play the piano and had a voice that would quiet every person in the room she was in. Her favorite bird was the Cardinal, and the morning after she passed there was a female Cardinal just outside the window singing its beautiful song.

She is survived by her life partner Eugene Hollander, her three children, daughter, Dina Hansen (husband Uday Bhanu) of San Carlos, CA, daughter, Dale Kettering (husband Greg) of Buena Vista, CO, and a son, Michael Hansen (wife Debbie) of Milladore, WI. Mike Hollander of Dallas, TX, Steve Hollander (wife Lauren), of Palm Gardens, FL. She has 10 grandchildren and many "grandpets". She will be greatly missed by her wonderful neighbors, Rodney and Mary Cline, Ron Wark, and Becky Barnes.

A date for her memorial service has yet to be determined. At Nan's request, interment will take place at her daughter's land in Buena Vista, CO. A tree will be planted there in her memory
