Robert E. "Bob" Hill Obituary
Robert E. "Bob" Hill, 87, of Lafayette, passed away at 9:40 a.m. Thursday, April 3, 2014 at St. Elizabeth Central Hospital. Born September 29, 1926 in Detroit, MI, he was the son of the late Luther and Anne (Wild) Hill. Bob graduated from Fordson High School in Dearborn, MI and went on to attend Purdue University. During WW II, he served with the United States Navy as an electrician on the USS Waxsaw from 1944 until being honorably discharged from active duty in 1946. His marriage was to Alice M. Roller on June 3, 1946 in Newport, KY and she survives. Bob worked as an electrician for over 18 years with the Monon Railroad and then went on to work for a year at Alcoa in Lafayette before moving to Indianapolis to work at the Ford Motor Company from 1968 until his retirement in 1989. For a time, Bob moved to Scottsdale, AZ, living there from 2003 until returning to Lafayette in 2011. Bob was a life member of the Lafayette Masonic Lodge #123 and as a young man enjoyed photography. His later interests included watching NASCAR, Colts football, playing bingo and euchre, gardening, and spending time at the Senior Center at Jenks Rest in Columbian Park. In 2012, Bob was one of the veterans able to take an Honor Flight to Washington, DC.

Bob is survived by his four children, John R. "Jack" Hill (wife, Jean) of Tifton, GA, Nancy Hill Gregory (husband, Mike) of Scottsdale, AZ, Dennis Hill of Rossville, IN, and Lu Ann Hill Thomas (husband, Bob) of Lafayette, one sister, Sharon Harwood of Troy, MI, seven grandchildren, Melissa Kroeger (husband, Grant), Kevin Gregory (wife, Tami), Alicia Hagerman (husband, Bill), Matthew Hill, Leslie Fisher (husband, Mike), Bryan Thomas (wife, Brooke) and Jeffery Hill, and 10 great-grandchildren. Bob was preceded in death by one sister, Dolores Johnson.

Private family services will be held.
