Thomas Patrick Doherty Notice
Doherty, Thomas Patrick, Honorable Formerly of Milwaukee and Elm Grove Wisconsin. Found Eternal Peace on Thursday, August 21, 2014 at Mercy Hospital, Chicago IL with his children at his side after a long and complicated illness at the age of 83 years. Thomas was the proud and cherished father and "best friend" of Mary Doherty of Chicago, IL and Tim Doherty of Denver, CO. He was preceded in death by his beloved and loving wife of 44 years Elizabeth "Betty" Ann (nee Murphy) Doherty. Also preceded by his parents Lela (nee Fowlery) and Fred Doherty, sisters and brothers Mary, Honey, John, Jim and Bob. Thomas Patrick Doherty began his life in Milwaukee along with his education. He graduated from St. Sebastian Grammar School, Marquette University High School, Marquette University and received his law degree from Marquette Law School in 1960. He began his professional career in private practice and in 1963 he served in the Public Defender's Office. In 1965 he served as Deputy District Attorney and in 1972 ran for the District Attorney's Office. Tom was appointed Circuit Court Judge in Milwaukee County in 1981 and was named Deputy Chief Judge in 1995. He retired from the bench in 2001. After his retirement he began and started a new career in mediation practice. Over the many years in law he served the community for 20 years on the bench and over 20 years in private practice. Friends and colleagues may join the family Tuesday, August 26 at GESU CATHOLIC CHURCH 1145 W. Wisconsin Avenue, Milwaukee for a gathering from 9:00 AM until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM. Followed immediately by a reception and time of sharing. Private burial Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials in his name to the , PO BOX 902 Pewaukee, WI 53072. "Tom will be deeply missed, but remembered for his love for his profession, golf, family and along with his wonderful smile and sense of humor and integrity both on and off the bench. "
