Alfred 'Al' H. McKenzie
Alfred "Al" H. McKenzie passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on March 5, 2014. He was 92 years old.
Al was born in Red Deer, Alberta, Canada, on June 26, 1921, to Duncan and Ethel McKenzie. He was raised by his father and stepmother Dora in Lowell, WA. He was active in school participating in both football and music, he played the violin. Later in life he served his community becoming a volunteer firefighter in Lowell.
Al married Luella and had one son, Robert. With this marriage he also parented three stepchildren, Adeline, Sharon, and Richard. Al had various jobs including Pittsburgh Paint Store, remodeling, and wood working. After Luella passed away, Al married Millie Mechum in the mid 1960's and relocated to Ellensburg, WA. Al started working for Twin City Foods and then for Central Washington University working as a locksmith. He loved the outdoors especially camping, hunting, fishing, and boating. Later he married Marjorie McKenzie.
He continued his passion of wood working and spent many hours in his shop making things for other people and wouldn't charge them. In May of 1972 Al was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses. He was used extensively in the congregation, this included caring for accounts, giving encouraging talks, and helping on many building projects. His strong faith moved him to be in regular attendance at meetings even on occasions when his health was not the best. His love for God and His promises also moved him to share in the public ministry in Jehovah's Witnesses. In this ministry he spoke with conviction of the Bibles promise of life on earth without sickness, pain, and death (Rev 21:3-4) He shared in this work the best he could, right up to the very end.
He was a fine woodworker and loved doing projects for other people. He will be greatly missed as a loyal and loving friend, always wanting to do good for others. No better husband could there be.
Al is survived by his wife Marjorie; his children Adeline (Lars) Sundt, Sharon (Rick) Barrows, Richard (Kathy) McKenzie, and Robert (Julie) McKenzie; His stepchildren Steve (Sheri) Kaynor, Doug (Dorothy) Kaynor, Daniel (Wanda) Kaynor, Judy "Kaynor" (Nick) Heineck, and David (Kathleen) Kaynor. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Al was preceded in death by his parents Duncan and Ethel; his siblings Ethel, Lloyd, and George (Red); His stepmother Dora; and his two previous spouses Luella and Millie.
A Memorial will be held March 22, 2014, at 2PM, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, located at 1404 Vantage Highway (University Way), Ellensburg, WA, 98926.
