Carolyn K. Akker
It is with great sadness that the family of Carolyn K. Akker, 74, of Ellensburg,WA. announce her recent passing. Surrounded by family that deeply loved her, Carolyn went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 6,2014 at Kittitas Valley Hospital. She was born on January 7, 1940 in Morrison, Illinois to Clifford and Bernadine (Irion) Alldritt. She was raised and educated in Morrison, and graduated with honors from Morrison Community High School. After High School Carolyn attended Rockford Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She completed her education in three years and became a Registered Nurse. On September 7, 1940 she married Lee R. Akker at Ebenezer Reformed Church in Morrison, Illinois. Carolyn enjoyed many years working as a nurse; she was employed at University of Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary and St. Luke's Hospital, both in Chicago. She also worked many years at the Valley Clinic in Ellensburg, and retired in 1998.
Carolyn was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who greatly impacted all those she came in contact with. She exhibited tremendous care and compassion for her family, and put others needs before hers. In addition, she was very involved in various community activities which included Christian Women's Club, Windy City Red Hatters, and Washington Old Time Fiddlers. Carolyn was a very active member at Chestnut Street Baptist Church, and her passion included teaching preschool Sunday School class for over 40 years. Numerous children heard their very first Bible Story from 'Ms. Carolyn.' She had a strong faith in God and shared her love for Jesus with preschool children, and all those she came to know and love. She had a fierce desire to share the message of hope in Jesus and traveled to Guatemala many times with a medical team where both Carolyn and Lee (husband) ministered to both the spiritual and physical needs of families there. Her strong faith is a shining example to all that knew her and continues to encourage us. Carolyn would want everyone to know what she knew, that its not religion or church attendance, but a personal relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ. It is because of that relationship that we can look forward to that Great Reunion in heaven.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Lee R. Akker of Ellensburg, Paul and Becky Akker of Coeur d' Alene, ID, Laura (Akker) and Dell Moore of Phoenix, AZ, and Ellen (Akker) and Tony Amorati of East Wenatchee; 10 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and a brother, Neal Alldritt of Sarasota, FL. She was preceded in death by her parents.
If Carolyn impacted your life in a positive way, her family would love your attendance at her Celebration of Life Service on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at 11:00 am at Chestnut Street Baptist Church located at 609 N. Chestnut, Ellensburg. Flowers or contributions to The CSBC Building Fund would be welcome; call church office for details.
