1928 - 2017 Obituary Condolences
ELENORA F. STONER Elenora Frances Stoner, 89, of Ballston Lake, NY, formerly of Kansas City, KS passed away at home surrounded by love November 1, 2017. Elenora was born in 1928 to Stanley and Josephine (Lawicki) Skwarlo at the family home in Kansas City, KS. Growing up on Polish Hill in a close ethnic community nurtured and challenged her at times. Enduring both the Great Depression and World War II, she earned her title as a member of the Greatest Generation, finding strength through the struggles of daily life. She left Wyandotte high school to pursue work at the Boilermakers, an industry fueled by the need for warships. Obtaining her GED certificate in a matter of weeks, she was proud that her continued education developed from her many jobs in the legal and medical fields. Elenora worked as a Medical Transcriptionist for St. Luke's Hospital for 17 years. During the war, she met Melvin Stoner at the Play-mor while he was still active in the Air Force and fell in love. A devoted daughter, she also supported her aging mother and sister, and eventually her daughter. Elenora "Aunt Lenora," doted lovingly on all of her nieces and nephews. Known for her punctual Hallmark cards with enclosed $2 bills, she kept the dates of birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, deaths, and more with mathematical precision. Her beautiful mind will be missed and her elegance and dignity will continue to inspire future generations. Elenora was preceded in death by her parents, her ex-husband, her brothers John and Andrew, his wife Clara, her sisters Catherine and Barbara, her husband, Eddy, and her nephew Ronald Doering. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Sylvia Stoner-Hawkins, her son-in-law Wayne Hawkins of Ballston Lake, granddaughter Halina Hawkins, nephew David Skwarlo (Deborah), niece Sue Darby, Carol Ann Todd (Thomas), niece Francene Blessman and their families. Wake will be from 2:30-4:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 5, at All Saint Parish, Kansas City, KS, where funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday. Nov. 6. Mrs. Stoner will be laid to rest at Highland Park Cemetery, 38th & State, Kansas City, KS.
