March 18, 1930 - December 15, 2018 Don Swenson, a longtime resident of Arcadia and executive in downtown Los Angeles, died on December 15 at his home in Arcadia, surrounded by his family. He was 88. He was born in Hollywood and attended schools throughout California before graduating from Abraham Lincoln High School in San Francisco. Following his family to Oahu, he attended the University of Hawaii before transferring to UCLA, where he graduated in 1952. At UCLA, he was affiliated with Delta Tau Delta fraternity. He was a proud Bruin for life. Following graduation, he enlisted in the Army and served for 18 months in North Korea, receiving the Bronze Star for heroic achievement. He met his wife, Lauragene, on a blind date in 1958 and they were married 6 months later. Don worked in downtown Los Angeles for nearly 40 years, first with Fidelity & Deposit and then as a stockbroker for E.F. Hutton. He then became Executive Director of The Rotary Club of Los Angeles, then worked with the Salvation Army and other non-profit organizations. Upon retirement, Don volunteered extensively as a docent for The Huntington Library as well as the Gene Autry Museum of the American West. A 54-year resident of Arcadia, he served on the boards of the Arcadia Historical Society and the Arcadia Library Commission. He was a 55-year member of the Jonathan Club, where he served on the Board of Directors and received the Jonathan Trumbull Award. He also was a longtime member of the Rotary Club and the Valley Club of San Marino. An avid reader and history buff, Don and Lauragene travelled extensively to Europe, Asia and Australia. In addition to his wife of 60 years, Don is survived by his son Eric (Yukiji) and daughter Karen Swenson Procsal (Dow). A Memorial Service will be held at St. Edmund's Episcopal Church in San Marino on Saturday, December 22 at 11am. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to the Salvation Army or your favorite charity in Don's name.
