Formerly of DeWitt Township

Age 68, died unexpectedly Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at his home in Arizona.  Barry was born June 11, 1945 in Lansing and was the son of Alva and Florence (Fritz) Hartman.  He graduated from DeWitt High School in 1963. He served in the United States Air Force for 4 years and was a courier in Germany for 2 of those years.  Barry was a member of the Edwin J. Leyanna VFW Post 671 DeWitt.  Barry worked for the Ingham County Sheriff and Michigan State Police Departments as a dispatcher.  He retired from the Michigan State Police and after a few years of needing something other than golf to keep him busy, he went to work for Brink's.  He left Brink's to help care for his sister, Patty until she passed.  He then contacted Brink's and accepted a work assignment in Phoenix.  Barry loved the warm weather and year-round golf.  He loved making people laugh and had fun wherever he was.  He had a lot of friends and will truly be missed by all who knew him. 

Surviving are his sister, Nancy (Larry) Drolett of DeWitt; nieces, Julie (Eric) Mendel of North Carolina, Tricia (Mike) Reling of Gaylord, Dale Parkinson-Forcier of Gaylord, Katie (Matthew) Walker of Mason; nephews, Ron (Michele) Parkinson of Au Gres, Billy Baker of DeWitt; great-nieces and nephews; uncles, Charles Fritz, Kenneth (Nora) Hartman; aunts, Arlene Henderson Carey, Janet Hatt Cavanaugh; many cousins and lots of friends.  He is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Patricia (Parkinson) Doll; aunts, Ethel Babula, Thelma Fritz, Violet Fritz,; uncles, Rev. Arthur Fritz, William (Billy) Fritz, Charles Henderson, Marley Hatt. 

Graveside Services will be held at 12:00Noon on Saturday, May 3, 2014 at the Gunnisonville Cemetery (corner of Clark and Wood Roads) in DeWitt Township.  Rev. Mark Johnson, Pastor of Gunnisonville United Methodist Church, officiating. Please bring a story or two with you to share, after the service.  Contributions may be made to the Edwin J.
