Robert A. Estes Obituary
ESTES, ROBERT A., 90, of Louisville, passed into God's loving embrace on Saturday, May 11, 2013.

Son of William Hendrix Estes and Nannie Lee Bagwell Estes, of Greenville, SC, he was the youngest of 12 children. He graduated from Furman University, received a master's degree from the University of Louisville and a second master's from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He completed studies for his Ph.D. from New York University.

A devout Christian and dedicated educator, he retired after 40 years as a elementary school principal and economics professor. He sold real estate for another 10 years after his retirement. He was pastor of Sloansville Baptist Church and he loyally served as president of the Louisville AARP and the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association. Robert was a devoted member and past deacon of Walnut Street Baptist Church.

He is survived by Mary, his loving wife of 65 years; their three children, Sandra Rogers (Berton), of Titusville, NJ, Mary Zywar (John), of Holden, MA and Robert A. Estes Jr. of Louisville. He was the beloved grandfather of Brookye and Sandra Zywar and Elizabeth, Rachel and Robert A. Estes III; and the adoring great-grandfather of Alan John and Clark Keeney, Jude Fleming and Isaac Gaier.

The family wants to thank the conscientious staff of the Wayne Dehoney Health and Rehabilitation Center at Treyton Oak Towers.

Family and friends are invited to call 5-8 p.m. Monday at Highlands Family-Owned Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road, and 10-11 a.m. Tuesday at Walnut Street Baptist Church, Third and St. Catherine streets, where his funeral will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, with burial to follow in Resthaven Cemetery.
