Gregory Young Obituary
Gregory L. Young

STOW: Gregory Lee Young, age 61, resident of Stow, Ohio and former Shelby resident died unexpectedly Friday, December 7, 2012 at his home.

Born March 28, 1951 in Shelby he was the son of the late Victor and Margaret (Hertzer) Young. A 1969 graduate of Shelby High School, Greg attended Kent State University receiving his bachelor's degree and was a member of the Kent State football team. He was currently employed as assistant manager of Sears in North Canton.

Greg was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and the Elks. He was an avid sports fan, particularly football, which he played from childhood through college. He also enjoyed golf, and was a member of the Shelby Country Club for many years. He had a work ethic equaled only by his devotion to his family and friends, of whom there are too many to count. Most known for his outgoing and friendly personality, Greg easily made friends and inspired others during his life. More than anything else, he was an exemplary husband to his wife, Mary Beth, who pre-deceased him on December 10, 2011, and a father. If you were to ask him, he would say that his family was his greatest legacy.

He is survived by his daughter, Theresa (Adam) Schultz, of Morrisville, North Carolina, his grandson, Connor Schultz born December 4, 2012; one sister, Sue (Raymond) Alt of Bucyrus; one brother, David (Jean) Young; his mother-in-law, Virginia Smith, and sister-in-law, Anna Miller, both of North Canton, Ohio, in addition to his extended family of cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews throughout the country. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Marklin "Mark" Smith.

A memorial service will be celebrated 1:00 pm Friday, December 14, 2012 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 5742 State Route 61 South, Shelby, OH, 44875 with Father Michael A. Geiger officiating. Memorial expressions may be made in Greg's memory to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc., 2600 Network Blvd., Suite 300, Frisco, TX 75034 or a .
