GALION: William F. Bowin, 72, of Galion, died Saturday, February 20, 2010 at Galion Community Hospital after a brief illness.
Born July 20, 1937 in Oneida, N.Y., he was the son of the late William F. and Olive (Coe) Bowin. He married Norma (Hill) Bowin on August 1, 1959 and she survives.
Bill graduated from Syracuse University in 1959 with a degree in Electrical Engineering and belonged to the Acacia Masonic Fraternity. He worked in Industry for 26 years at various places including ITT North Electric in Galion, H.P.M. in Mt. Gilead and Fairfield Engineering in Marion, later teaching Engineering classes at Marion Technical College.
A member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, he worked sound at church functions. Bill was a member of his original Masonic Lodge in New York but has been attending Galion Masonic Lodge 414 F & AM. He enjoyed amateur radio and was an emergency weather spotter. He loved to fish, being outdoors and spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He played bridge with the Galion Men's Bridge Club and sang barbershop with the Country Gentlemen in Bucyrus.
In addition to his wife of over 50 years, Norma, he is also survived by one son and daughter-in-law, William F. and Sherrie Bowin of Galion; two daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and George Miller of Galion, and Barbara and Jack Palmer of Huntersville, N.C.; and eight grandchildren, Will Bowin, Samuel Bowin, Chris Bowin, Sarah Bowin, Erik Miller, Katelyn Miller, Shea Palmer and Reid Palmer.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Patricia Pontius.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at Richardson-Davis Funeral Home where services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 24, 2010 with Pastor Tom Snode officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
Masonic memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Richardson-Davis Funeral Home during calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Paul United Methodist Church, 746 Cherry Street, Galion, OH 44833.
