James W. Eckes, 87 of Marshfield died on Tuesday morning, September 24, 2013 at the Golden Living Center Three Oaks in Marshfield. He was under the care of Aseracare Hospice of Wausau.

Graveside services will be 3pm Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Marshfield with the VFW Post #1866 conducting the military rites.

Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Jim was born in Marshfield on January 13, 1926 to Nicholas and Helen (Gropp) Eckes. He was a 1943 graduate of Marshfield Senior High School. He was a veteran of the United States Air Corp serving during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. After his honorable discharge, he became employed at Roddis Plywood Corp of Marshfield where he worked for 34 years, retiring as a mill core supervisor. During his retirement, he was a crossing guard for the Marshfield Police Department for 17 years.

He enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing and spent time at their cabin in Barnes, WI. Jim was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, its choir, honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus John Eisen Council #1799, honorary life member of the VFW Post 1866 and the American Legion Post # 54 both of Marshfield.

Jim was united in marriage to Audrey J. Hunter on June 21, 1947 at St. John's Catholic Church in Marshfield. She died on May 22, 2013.

Jim is survived by his daughter Susan Jensen of Marshfield, granddaughter Alison (Rob) Nikolai of Marshfield and three grandchildren, Bobbi Rae, Will and Vivian. He is further survived by two sisters, Marlene "Molly" (Robert) Kohlbeck, Barbara (Ronald) Scheibe both of Marshfield and a sister-in-law Dolly Patrie of Phillips.

Besides his parents and wife Audrey, he was preceded in death by a son Randall, four sisters, Geraldine Wilder, Georgetta Worley, Luella Wolf and Arloween Verch.

Memorials may be given to the Marshfield Medical Research Foundation.
