Susan T. Crawford Obituary
Susan T. Crawford
April 3, 1955 - April 17, 2013 (58)
Resident of San Jose
Susan passed away gently at home after a long ordeal with terminal brain cancer. The cancer caused a massive stroke on August 19, 2011 which nearly killed her and left her with a significant disability. But Susan's hard work, strong faith, good humor, courage and love shone through until the very end; she lived a miracle on every front, living nearly 2 years - good years spent with family and friends - instead of the projected 3 to 4 months. Susan was surrounded by her loving family and her church community throughout her illness, and she knew that the wonderful, unwavering love and grace of Jesus would carry her through and home. She died at home, peacefully, with her husband and daughters.
Susan is survived by her husband of nearly 32 years, Rev. Jim Crawford, formerly pastor of San Jose First United Methodist Church in downtown San Jose, and her two beautiful daughters whom she loved beyond measure: Katye (26) and Rebecca (22). Before living in San Jose, where the family has lived for the past 22 years, Susan and Jim lived in Newcastle, CA (where Susan cared for her sister Barbara who died of breast cancer) and Modesto, CA (where Susan taught elementary school).
Moving to San Jose, Susan was first a stay-at-home mom and was very involved in Girl Scouts of America, Olinder Elementary, Hoover Middle, and Lincoln High schools. She then worked for many happy years as a part of the Hicklebee's bookstore team in Willow Glen.
Susan was born in San Francisco and grew up in Rancho Cordova, CA. She had a BA in Education and a lifetime Teaching Credential from Sacramento State, and a Special Credential in Reading from Stanislaus State. Susan is survived by her father Glen, brothers Glen, Robert and Mike, and sisters Janet, Paula and Marie. She is predeceased by her sister Barbara and her mother Barbara Sr.
Susan's memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 5th at 7:30pm at the Willow Glen United Methodist Church (1420 Newport Ave, corner of Minnesota and Newport). In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Susan's honor may be sent to the memorial fund at San Jose First United Methodist Church, 204 South 15th Street, San Jose, CA 95112.
