Cody Sorensen Obituary

Published by Modesto Bee on Feb. 14, 2019.
Cody Jacob Sorensen
March 10, 1993 - February 10, 2019
Cody was the kindest person you would ever meet. He had an old soul. He loved his family, playing with his neice and nephews, riding bulls, working with horses & cattle, riding his Harley, visiting with family, making us laugh & he loved his border collie Benjamin as if he were his child. He touched so many lives, more than we all realized.
Cody is preceded in death by his Grandfather Jay "Pete" Vinton Sorensen of Oakdale. He is survived by his Grandparents Carl & Sandy Wheeler of Oakdale, Grandmother Shirley Sorensen of Oakdale, Father Eric Sorensen of Oakdale, Mother & Step Father John & Tracy (Wheeler) Fernandes of Angels Camp, Brother Justin Sorensen (Shannon Scott Sorensen) of Coalinga, Brother Zach Sorensen (Madison) of Oakdale, Step-Brother Jonathan Fernandes of Vallecito, Step-Brother Josh Fernandes (Natasha Fernandes) of Copperopolis, Step-Sister Johnnacia Fernandes of Angels Camp, Nephews Colton & Ryland Sorensen of Royston, GA, Nephew Jaxsen Sorensen of Oakdale, Niece Savannah Sorensen of Oakdale, Nephews Slade & Sawyer Sorensen of Coalinga, Lilly Fernandes of Copperopolis and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Cody will truly be missed by every person who knew & loved him, every life he touched. He had a way about him that just made you love him & a smile that lit up a room. It broke his heart that he couldn't ride bulls anymore after his accident at the sales yard, but that never stopped him from taking a young cowboy under his wing, showing him the ropes and loaning him his old gear. He was kind, respectful and didn't have a mean bone in his body. He would give you his last dollar, go out of his way to make you smile & had a tender heart like no other. We are all so proud of the kind, gentle loving young man he had become. He was taken from us way too soon & has left us all heart broken, empty & lost. We will love you & miss you every day little Cabbage....until we meet again. We know Papa Pete, and so many others we have lost, have you now & you are safe.
Our Heavenly Father, we pause at this time, mindful of the many blessings you have bestowed upon us. We ask, Lord, that you be with us in the arena of life. We as cowboys do not ask for special favors. We don't ask to draw around the chute fighting horse, the steer that wont lay or to never break the barrier. We don't even ask for all daylight runs. We do ask, Lord, that you will that you will help us live our lives here on earth as cowboys, in such a manner, that when we make that last inevitable ride, to the country up there, where the grass grows lush, green & stirrup high, and the water runs cool, clear & deep, that you'll take us by the hand and say: "Welcome to Heaven cowboy, your entry fees are paid"
A celebration of Cody's life will be held at the Oakdale Rodeo Grounds on March 1st at 11:00am. Instead of flowers if you would like to make a donation to St Jude Childrens Hospital or the PBR Rider Relief Fund in his honor, he would have liked that.

Cody, I know I didn't know you in person, but your mama has always kept me updated in your short life. You are so loved my dear boy. I know you felt that when you were here and feel that now up in the heavens with your own set of wings. So many accomplishments and so many people that you have touched. It just amazes me. I think of you and your family very often. I can't believe it's been a year already. Continue watching over your mama. She misses her son very much. I wish I would have met you when you, when you were older.

Cody,
I'm sorry to hear that you have left this Earth to soon. I have only met you a couple of times in your life, but knew you were destined to do great things in your life. I knew your mama really well and she adored you as she did call all of her children. You will be missed by all your friends and family.
Tracy, please accept my deepest condolences on your loss. I'm so sorry. Call me anytime. You raised Cody right and let him live the life he loved. My prayers are with you and your whole Wheeler family.
Love Sean and Rhonda Shafer

Cody we will never forget you! I will never forget you and your Mom coming to get hot chocolate before school started at El Portal. I will never forget my Brother and Dad putting you on our homemade bucking barrel for calf riding practice. I will never forget the last time I saw you just a week ago, we said our hellos but I wish I would have given you a bear hug. A great human being, you will not be forgotten.

Cody I miss you so much. I hope you always know how much I love you and how heart broken and empty my heart is. I know I will see that beautiful smile again someday, but today I feel like my heart could just stop beating at any moment. Your obituary was by far the very hardest thing I have ever written in my life and I know I have never cried so much or so hard. We all miss you so much. My heart aches but not just for me. For all of us that had the privelege to know you, love you and call you ours. I promise you will never be forgotten, you will be with all of us forever until we meet again. I love you I love you I love you baby Rest in peace my little cowboy....Mama
