Hello-
I just came upon Mr. Kimmel´s obituary and was very sorry to hear the news. I apologize for the late response. I hope you receive it.
Mr. Kimmel was probably the most inspiring and thoughtful teachers I had while attending Watchung Hills Regional High School (Class of 1974), indeed, perhaps throughout all my academic years.
His passion for the books we read and discussed as well as his understanding of our perspective was tremendous. He really helped open up literature for me-and I am sure many others. I am eternally grateful. A favorite response of his has always stayed with me: "I don´t agree with what you´re saying but I will defend to the death your right to say it."
Thank you, George (seems odd to say Mr. Kimmel now that I am in my late 60s). For the number of times I have thought of and mentioned his work over the years he seems more like an old friend than a teacher. And please accept my sincere condolences to all of you in the Kimmel family.
Sincerely,
Mark Speer
