Jean D. (Curzenski) Aklonis, a resident of Clark for 60 years, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, September 11, 2013. Born to John and Elizabeth Curzenski, she was raised in Wilkes Barre, PA. Following her education, she modeled for notable dress designers in Wilkes Barre, then briefly lived in Brooklyn and Long Island. She also did her part in the war effort by working as "Rosie the Riveter" at the General Motors Plant in Linden. She took residence in Elizabeth and met the love of her life, Kastanta (Casey). They were married for 52 years and owned the Aklonis and Adams Pharmacy in Elizabeth. When Casey passed in 1996, Jean and her son, Robert continued the business until it was sold. Jean loved gardening and took pride in her beautiful garden, with a special fondness for red roses. In her early years, she belonged to the Metta-Sheriff Garden Club. Her full life also included memberships in the Rembrandt Cultural Society and was a founding parishioner of St. Agnes RC Church and a lifetime member of St. Agnes Rosary Society. Nothing was more important to her than her family. She was an adored wife, cherished mother, special sister and loved aunt.

Jean was predeceased by her adoring husband, Casey and her beloved son Robert and is survived by her devoted daughter, Lorraine j. Aklonis. Many happy holidays and celebrations were hosted at the Aklonis household. Jean saw to the enjoyment and comfort of all her family and friends. She will be sadly missed by her sister, Helen Dixon of Las Vegas. She was predeceased by her sisters, Anna Omasta, Louise Onembo, Sally Kozlowski and her brothers, Edward, John and Chester Curzenski. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Mary Kisley and her husband John, her godson, James Onembo and his wife Bonnie, nieces Lynda Marconi, Lorraine Omasta, Marla Klietz, Barbara DeMasi, nephew, Robert Dixon and several nieces and nephews in Michigan. In addition, surviving are Carol, John, Raymond and Phillip Aklonis, Barbara Lesniak, David and Douglas Kisley and Kenneth Lucius.

Viewing will be held on Sunday, September 15, 2013 from 4 to 8 PM at the Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home, 582 Springfield Ave., Westfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Agnes RC Church in Clark on Monday, September 16, 2013 at 9:45AM. Entombment will follow at St. Gertrude Cemetery in Colonia.
