Ronald Dean "Jasper" Kilgore. Obituary
Ronald Dean "Jasper" Kilgore,

AD1 USN Ret.

Jasper was born January 29, 1951 in Springfield, Mo. to Ernie and Norma Kilgore. He was called to be with the Lord August 2, 2014 surrounded by family and friends in Lake Havasu City, Ariz.

He joined the United States Navy in 1969 and retired in 1989 after a career full of citations, commendations and awards, which included the Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist Wings, and numerous others. One of the highlights of his time serving our country was his reenlistment ceremony onboard the USS Enterprise around-the-world cruise. It was his final re-up and was conducted by then Vice President Bush. After retiring from the Navy, he worked as a police officer and sheriff's deputy in various communities including California City, Calif. and Battlefield, Mo.

Jasper was well-known for his generosity, tenacity, and good humor. He would offer and often insist on helping anyone with a need. Be it financial, a place to stay, or simply an ear to listen. His giving nature extended to all those around him and he could be relied upon ay any time.

Though all who know him were often frustrated by his stubborn nature, it served him well. Having long-suffered with health issues, Jasper was not a stranger to adversity. He adapted and overcame more obstacles and setbacks in the past 10 years than most of us face in a lifetime, and he did it all with courage and a smile. He always had a funny story to tell, found the humor in any situation, and was willing to laugh at himself. These are the qualities that endeared him to so many.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernie and Norma; and brothers: Jimmy, Billie, and Bobby.

Left to cherish his memory are his only child, Laverne "Susie" and her husband, Larry "Tony" Banuelos, and grandsons, Wyatt and Justin Banuelos, all of Lemoore. He is also survived by his brother, Jerry; cousin, Dee; and "that dang dog Lucy"; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and many, many friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held on September 7, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. in the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aeries 4299 located at 1561 Marlboro Dr. Lake Havasu City, AZ 86406.
