Ronnie E. Melton

Ronnie E. Melton, age 62, of Republic Mo., passed away on Friday, April 4, 2014, surrounded by his loving family, from pulmonary fibrosis caused by asbestosis exposure in Vietnam while serving with the 1st Army Division (The Big Red 1) where he received two bronze stars. He was born on December 12, 1951, in Carthage, Mo., the son of Hillman and Thelma (Satterfield) Melton.

Ron was preceded in death by his father; his father and mother in law, Loren and Ellen Linebaugh; and a brother in law, Ken Linebaugh.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Sue (Linebaugh) Melton; a daughter, Tiffany Booth and husband Jason; two granddaughters, Madilynn and Kensington; and his mother, Thelma Melton, all of Republic; four brothers, Mike Melton and wife Lucy, Buffalo, New York, J.R. Davidson and wife Janice, Marshfield, Jack Davis, Jay, Oklahoma, and Tom Melton, Springfield; a brother-in-law, Richard Linebaugh and wife Darla; and a sister-in-law, Ronda Middleton and husband Jim, all of Nixa; a host of nieces and nephews; and special friends, Rick Lindsey, Al Waldron, and John Helton.

Ron loved his family and especially doted on his granddaughters. He loved hunting and fishing with them. Ron was a retired Teamster Local 245 member; a lifetime member of VFW Post 4593; a licensed funeral director at Meadors Funeral Home; a 1969 Carthage high school graduate; and he had served the Republic community through various clubs and organizations.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, April 7, 2014 in Meadors Funeral Home, Republic. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 8, 2014, also in the funeral home, officiated by Monty Stratton, of Hood UMC, Republic. In lieu of flowers, please donate in Ron's memory to the Republic High School Fishing Team, attention Jim Huson or Linda Letterman; or to the Wounded Warrior Project. Burial will be at a later date in the Missouri Veteran's Cemetery, Springfield, with full military honors. Online condolences may be shared at
