Bruno H., beloved husband, father, and grandfather, born in the heart of Rome, Italy in 1915, died early in the morning, Dec. 12, 2012, in Hackensack, NJ. He was 97.
The quintessential lover of life to all who knew him, he grew up around the corner from Piazza Navona, on Via Zanardelli, until he immigrated to New York City with his family, which included his only sibling, his younger brother, Sergio, in 1932. A graduate of Fordham University, Class of 1938, he went on to receive his Ph.D. in Romance languages from Fordham in 1941.
He entered the US Army in 1941, earning the rank of Captain, serving honorably in both World War II and the Korean War. He was one of the first participants in the Military Intelligence Training Camp at Camp Ritchie, Maryland. While at Camp Ritchie he was selected to join the Office of Strategic Services (OSS). Later he would be a member of the 525th Military Intelligence Service Group during the Korean War.

He married his wife, Lola, in 1942. After retiring from the US Army he began his 40-year career as an American Board Certified orthotist with Cosmevo Surgical and Orthopedic Corporation in Paterson, NJ, where he retired as President in 1992. He was president of the New York Surgical Trade Association.

A consummate world traveler, he surrounded himself with literature, opera, soccer, fine food, wine, friends, and most of all, family. He is predeceased by his wife Lola. He is survived by his two loving children, Richard Bettini, of Edgewater, NJ, and Renee Allessio, of Hewitt, NJ, and his four grandchildren, Justin Allessio, Christopher Allessio, Lauren Bettini, and Nicole Bettini.
A funeral mass is planned for Saturday, December 15, 2012, 9:30 AM at Holy Trinity R.C. Church, 34 Maple Avenue, Hackensack, NJ 07601. The family will receive relatives and friends Friday 5-9 PM at Vander Plaat-Caggiano Funeral Home, 13-31 Saddle River Road, Fair Lawn, NJ 07410, 201-797-3500.
