It is with great sadness that the family of Dr. Ronald J. Gretz, DC, announces his passing following a year long battle with multiple myeloma.

Dr. Gretz, 80, of Washington, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 in Manorcare in McMurray.

He was born on July 16, 1938 in Clairton to Joseph and Helen Miscik Gretz who preceded him in death.

On August 29, 1964 he married Anita Walsh who survives. They celebrated 54 years of marriage.

Dr. Gretz was a veteran, having served his country for four years in the United States Navy. During his time in the service, Dr. Gretz was with the U.S. Navy Medical Corps, and worked first hand with low pressure chamber/high altitude training for future space programs. He had the unique experience of being part of space flight preparation and worked directly with fitting the astronauts' flight suits as well as with the space monkey "Baker" prior to its trip into space.

Dr. Gretz was a graduate of Clairton High School in 1957. He did his undergraduate education at Cal State Fullerton, in preparation of attending Palmer College of Chiropractic. Dr Gretz graduated from Palmer in the class of 1965 with a Doctorate of Chiropractic degree.

Dr. Gretz was a long time resident of Canonsburg, and served the community for nearly 40 years with his practice of chiropractic. An avid golfer, he was a member of Washington Country Club and then Rolling Hills Country Club. Dr. Gretz was a rated tennis player for many years, was also very fond of fishing, and was a gifted watercolor artist.

In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by his son, Dr. Jeffrey Gretz (Beth) of McMurray; and his daughter, Dr. Laurel K. Pisciottano (Maurice) of Venetia; five grandchildren, Erica and Julia Gretz, Michael, Matthew and Marc Pisciottano; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends are welcome from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, January 20, in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra, LFD, owner/supervisor and Darla A. Ron and I grew up together on Reed St. in Clairton, Pa.. We were on our championship swimming team at Clairton high School until he graduated in 1957. He was a fantastic Freestyler and won many individual and relay events especially in his last year as we won the WPIAL and Regional Championship titles and placed 6th at state at Penn State. Ron was a very Nice and well mannered guy I had the pleasure of knowing. Amen!
