Jack Deyo Young, 86, of Green Valley, Ariz., passed away peacefully on Aug. 7, 2013. He was born Aug. 10, 1926, in Cadillac, the youngest of four children of John and Julia Jane (Deyo) Young. He graduated from Lake City High School in 1944 and married the former Marilyn Elaine Dole in Lake City Aug. 20, 1949.

Jack was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving during World War II and was privileged to be chosen to attend the Nuremberg Trials after Germany's surrender. Upon returning from the war, he finished college, graduating from Michigan State University in 1950. He worked in a variety of health and safety roles at The Dow Chemical Co. in Midland for 30 years, retiring in 1988.

Following retirement, Jack and Marilyn spent winters in Green Valley, Ariz., moving there full time in 2001. Jack was an active member of the Valley Presbyterian Church in Green Valley where he participated in many service activities. He had a gift for meeting and interacting with people everywhere he went. He was an avid Michigan State fan and often stopped strangers to strike up a conversation just because they were wearing green and white. He loved playing cards and belonged to a bridge-playing club for many years in Midland. He enjoyed traveling, swimming, dancing, big band and jazz music. He considered Lake City home and enjoyed visiting there every summer with family and friends.

Jack is survived by his wife, Marilyn; and children, Juliane (Alan) DeLuccio of Long Beach, Calif., Douglas (Debbie) Young of San Diego, and Gary (Ann) Young of Columbus, Ohio; grandchildren, Kristen Young, Hayden Rothwell, Lindsay Rothwell, Andrew Young McGregor, and Ryan Young. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister; an infant daughter, Diane Lynn; and brothers, James Young and Chalmer Young.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013, at 12 p.m., at the Young Funeral Home, in Lake City, with The Rev. Paul Tomlinson officiating. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. until service time. Burial will take place in the Mount View Cemetery in McBain. Memorial tributes may be made to Valley Presbyterian Church in Green Valley, Ariz.
