Kai Zeigler Obituary

TRIVOLI - Kai Eugene Zeigler, 44, of Centennial, Colo., formerly of Trivoli, Ill., passed away on Monday, Dec. 22, 2013, at his home.

Kai was born March 1, 1969, in Galesburg, Ill., to Charles and Vanna Zeigler.

He is survived by daughters, Sarah and Katherine of Aurora, Colo.; and brothers, Traig Zeigler (Kelly) of Peoria Heights and Andy Zeigler (Rhonda) of Peoria.

Kai graduated from Farmington High School in 1987 and joined the United States Air Force. He received basic training at Lakeland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, followed by advanced firearm training at Fort Hood, Texas. He spent one year at Rhine-Mein U.S. Air Force Base in Frankfort, Germany, and another year in Cheyenne, Wyo., at F.E. Warren Air Force Base. Following his four-year enlistment, he spent another eight years in the Illinois and Colorado Air National Guards. While in the Colorado Air National Guard, he was deployed and stationed in Qatar during the Persian Gulf War.

He was employed by UPS for 17 years, last working as security manager at the Aurora, Colo., hub.

Building and flying model airplanes was a longtime hobby for Kai. As a homeowner, he developed remodeling skills, enhancing the homes' qualities and values. The Rocky Mountains inspired his zeal for traveling the Western states, camping in the wilderness away from the hustle and noise of city life.

Cremation was accorded by Horan & McConaty Funeral Service/Cremation in Aurora, Colo.

Kai was buried with full military honors at Fort Logan in Denver, Colo., on Jan. 7, 2014. A time of remembrance for Kai will be held at the Farmington United Methodist Church, 187 W. Fulton St., Farmington, Ill., on July 6, 2014, at 4 p.m.

Memorials may be made to Sarah and Katherine Zeigler.

Dear Sarah and Katherine,

My name is Michael Reed and I wanted to let you know that your father is a great man. He and I were close friends and shared many good times together. One of the best moments I will never forget was the time your father, Jeff voice and I skipped the charter bus ride to six flags and instead drove his maroonish, orange box car (as we called it then). That was an adventure. There are so many more good memories like that.

I am so very sorry for your loss but your father will always be with. That is just how he rolls. God Bless you!

Dear Ziegler Family,

I am so sorry for your loss of Kai. I was his Sophomore English and Speech teacher and Drama Director. I remember him as a fun loving young man who was the life of a classroom and gathering. My thoughts are with his daughters as they journey without him. Hoping you find peace.

To the Ziegler family, please accept my sincere condolences. I have so many fond childhood memories spent at your home. One thing is for sure there was never a lack of laughter. The sense of humor you all possessed always ensured a great time. Kai had that, as well as a vrry kind heart. Traig, im so sorry for your loss. I apologize that I cannot attend the memorial service in Farmington as I will be traveling. Prayers to each of you.
