MANGUS, Harold R.

Harold R. Mangus, 92, born in Indiana, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Mangus, a 55 year resident of Florida, graduate of Purdue University; past away August 10, 2013 in Delray Beach, FL just four days shy of his 70th wedding anniversary with loving wife, Florence. Daughters Patricia Bean (Gregory), Merritt Island and Robin Raveson (Richard), Boca Raton remain ever devoted; preceded in death by his son, Charles; his brother, Roland and sister, Doris. Remaining siblings are brother, Robert (Jean) of Santa Barbara, CA; sister, Bette Wakeman newly relocated to Bradenton, FL; sister, Lucile (Wesley) Heironimus; brother, Lloyd (Penny) and brother, Roger (Sharon) of Union Mills, IN. Loving family also includes grandson, Michael (Melanie) Bernava; great-granddaughter, Autumn, Columbus, OH; granddaughter, Katie (Dennis) Brogan and great-grandson, Dustin of Cape Coral, FL; step granddaughters, Mia and Hallie Raveson, Boca Raton. Harold began his career as a sanitation director for American Baking Institute then Holsum Bakery of Miami, utilizing his Masters Degree in Entomology. After 10 years he moved his family to Boca Raton to join with his brother, Lloyd, to form their own company, Mangus Nursery and Landscape of Boynton Beach. Before the move to Florida, Harold began his charitable service through the ELKS. His membership to the South Miami ELKS lodge was a source of pride and he and fellow ELKS raised considerable charitable funds to support the Florida Elks Crippled Children's Hospital, and became Exalted Ruler and Past District Deputy. He also served seven years on the major projects board of the Florida ELKS and was a moving force behind what is now the Elks Youth Camp in Umatilla, FL. His other memberships included the American Legion, Mahi Shriners (Life Member), Freemasonry, Florida Nurserymen's & Grower's Association, Thomos Say Entomological Society and Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity. His military service concluded after a tour of duty in Europe for World War II, retiring as a Captain. His love for his country, family, friends and all animals will always be cherished. Babione Funeral Home East, Boca Raton, Visitation 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday, August 13, 2013; Service 11:00 AM Wednesday, August 14, 2013. Those wishing to send memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to The Florida Elks Youth Camp or Hospice by the Sea.
