GIBSON, Herbert Cummins "Bert"

Herbert Cummins "Bert" Gibson, 68, of West Palm Beach, died on November 27, 2013. Bert graduated from Forest Hill High School in 1963, received a BA Cum Laude from the University of the South in 1967, and a JD from the University of Florida in 1970. He was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. Bert was a graduate of the Judge Advocate General School at the University of Virginia. A member of the Florida Bar Association and Board Certified in Real Estate, he practiced law for 42 years in the family firm founded in 1935. Bert was a Trustee of the University of the South, Chair of the Board of the Palm Beach Blood Bank, Chair of the West Palm Beach Planning and Zoning Board, President of the West Palm Beach Kiwanis Club, Area Chair of Ducks Unlimited, and a Little League baseball coach at Phipps Park. He was a member of the Cody, Wyoming Shooting Club, The South Florida Shooting Club, the Sailfish Club of Florida, and the Society of the Four Arts. Bert was a member of The Episcopal Church of Bethesda-By-The-Sea, Palm Beach, FL. His passions were bird hunting with his beloved dogs and fly fishing. Bert is survived by Sally, his wife of 45 years; son, Terry Gibson (fiancee Teresa Sepko); daughter, Anne Burkholder (Matt); three granddaughters, Ashley Grace, Megan, and Karyn Burkholder; sister, Theodosia Fitzgerald; niece, Mary Laura Fitzgerald; nephew, Ted Fitzgerald (Larragh); mother-in-law, Irma McCall; and brother-in-law, Wally McCall (Michelle). A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 PM on December 12, 2013 at The Episcopal Church of Bethesda-By-The-Sea, Palm Beach. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cardinal Newman High School, Herbert C. Gibson Memorial Scholarship Fund 512 Spencer Drive, West Palm Beach, FL 33409 or the O. A. and Vidal F. Gane Scholarship at the University of the South, 735 University Ave., Sewanee, TN 37383.
