Patrick Began Obituary
Began, Patrick "Pat"

Patrick "Pat" Joseph Began, age 41 of Neenah, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, September 7, 2012. He was born May 5, 1971 to Daniel and Sue Began. On May 11, 1996, he married Sandra Lichtenberg.

Pat was a 1989 Neenah High School graduate and attended Ripon College. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1993 and went on to receive his Advanced degree in Certified Investment Management Analysis from Wharton School of Business. He attended the Graduate School of Business at the University of Chicago in Senior Investment Consultant. He was employed with Morgan Stanley Smith Barney as a Senior Vice President.

Pat was very active in his community, having been Past President and Board Member of Best Friends of Neenah-Menasha. He also was a member of CIMA (Certified Management Investment Analysis) and was a Board Member of the YMCA of the Fox Cities, United Way of the Fox Cities, and the Miracle League of the Fox Valley.

The best decision Patrick ever made was proposing to Sandra Lichtenberg and doing it at 30,000 feet to alleviate her fear of flying. Sandra became not only his wife, but his biggest supporter, cheerleader and best friend. He was the same for her. Their sons Jack and Charlie were Patrick's pride and joy. They meant the world to him.

Patrick enjoyed coaching his sons and their friends in youth sports, playing golf with his sons and close friends, playing tennis, but most of all he enjoyed spoiling his sons, watching B movies and listening to bad country music to the discomfort of everyone around him.

Patrick was absolutely one of a kind, and could always be recognized by his famous bow ties. His warmth, spirit, great humor and ability to relate to others made him a delight to be around. He had a knack for letting you know that you were truly something special in his life. Anyone who met Patrick never left an encounter with him without an ear to ear grin, and feeling better about how their day was going. He truly brought joy into so many people's world. A bright light has been extinguished in our lives, but a light still burns in all of us who have had the honor of knowing him and to call him husband, father, son, sibling, relative and friend. His compassionate and giving spirit affected so many individuals, families, groups and organizations within our community.

Pat is survived by wife of 16 years, Sandra; sons Jack and Charlie; his parents Daniel and Sue Began; brother Andrew (Kate) Began, and their children: John, Thomas and James; sister Katharine (Dan) Kearny and their children: Mairin, Will and Drew. He is further survived by his father and mother in-law Gary and Sharon Lichtenberg; sister-in-law, Lisa (Mark) Robbins, and their children: Matthew and Michael; sister in-law, Caralyn (Christoph) Karck, and their children: Fred and Ellie; brother-in-law, John Lichtenberg, and his children: Isabella and Gia; and sister in-law Lindsay Lichtenberg.

…in the words of the prophet Isaiah: "I have redeemed you, I have called you by name, and you are mine."

In lieu of flowers, donations to Best Friends of Neenah-Menasha would be appreciated.

A memorial service for Pat will be held at 7:00 P.M., Friday, September 14, 2012 at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, Appleton, Rev. Kurt Hoffman officiating. Friends will be received at church from 5:00 P.M. until the hour of service. Inurnment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
