Age 85, of Castle Shannon, on Monday, April 2, 2012. George leaves behind his wife of 59 years, Elizabeth Jean (Gloekler) Martin, a Greenfield girl who met her Sheraden boy on a blind double date. He was proud of his Naval service, proud of his studies in the inaugural class at Steubenville University, and proudest by far of his six children, whom he raised with his Irish sense of humor and his Catholic faith and sense of service: David, James (Joetta), Patrick (Patricia), Paul (Rebekah), Susan (Tim), and Diane (Tim). He retired as a superintendent in the Jones & Laughlin steel mill to concentrate on being a full-time Pop-pop. His grandchildren -- Meghan, James (Lauren), Ian, Elizabeth (Nate), Maria, Gabrielle, Daniel, Anna, Timothy, Emily, Lucas, Ryan, Grace, William, Benjamin and Julia -- were lucky to learn firsthand that life, at its best, is M&Ms and "Twenty Froggies" on Pop-pop's lap. He learned faith and shenanigans growing up in an Irish house full of brothers -- Joseph (Marilyn) and the late Jack, William, Edward and Thomas Martin -- and his smile at 85 was the same as on his First Communion. Friends will be welcomed at LAUGHLIN MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 222 Washington Rd., Mt. Lebanon, on Monday, April 9, from 4-8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Winifred Church on Tuesday, April 10, at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the St. Winifred Church Food Bank, 550 Sleepy Hollow Rd., Pittsburgh, PA 15228.

Dave - Just want you to know that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers...and what a beautiful family you have - you are truly blessed. Take care and hope to see you again soon! Big hugs!
Irish Poem:
May the road rise to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face. May the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again, May the Lord hold you in the palm of His hand.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you. The heavenly chorus must have needed a baritone for Twenty Froggies. God Bless.

How very sad I am to hear the news of Uncle George's passing. I'll always remember the smile on his face and the twinkle in his eyes. The map of Ireland on his face! I have great memories of our younger years when we spent time on the shores of Lake Erie and of our many family reunions. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this most difficult time.
