MARA CATHERINE
Of Churchill, on Wednesday, November 30, 2016, age 23. Beloved daughter of Bill Flanagan and Ann Devlin Flanagan; sister of Will Flanagan; granddaughter of William W., Jr., the late Jean Flanagan, and the late Ellen and Joseph Devlin; Goddaughter of Ann Raughter, her third grandmother all her life. Mara was a News Writer for Romper.com and a social media strategist. She was a graduate of St. Bede School, Pittsburgh CAPA 6-12 and Chatham University, where she was a senior chapter advisor for Her Campus and founder of Her Campus/Chatham. A gifted writer, Mara loved glitter, unicorns and the arts, her hometown of Pittsburgh and Pennsylvania sunsets. She was ever grateful for every blessing in her life, even the small kindnesses from so many during her months of treatment. Friends received at McCABE BROS., INC. FUNERAL HOME, (www.mccabebrothers.com) 6214 Walnut Street, Shadyside on Sunday 2-5 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Bede Church on Monday at 10 a.m. Those wishing to attend, please meet at the church. Interment to follow in Homewood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Sarcoma Foundation of America.

How sad it was to read of Mara's passing!
Please know that you have my prayers for her soul and for all of you during this very difficult time.
During my years at Central as teacher and Dean, I was so happy to reacquaint myself with Ann, who, years ago interviewed my father, a survivor of the Bataan Death March. I was privileged to meet Bill and work with Will during his freshman year at the school. It was also a joy to have met and spoken with Mara.
What a wonderful family! She remains with you all, and I now that you have someone praying for you from her special place in God's Heaven.
May the Angels welcome you into Paradise, Mara!

I'm remembering a lovely little girl with the biggest brown eyes I've ever seen. I would melt every time she looked at me. Mara Catherine was sweet and smart and refused to ride in a stroller (did I mention she was also opinionated?).
It was a joy to know her then. I wish we had known her as an adult too. We thought there would be time. There should have been time.
We're glad her suffering is over and hope the three of you can find some peace soon.

Mara was my friend in high school. i don't think i could ever forget her-- she always had such a calm, comforting demeanor, and seemed to know just what to say to make your day better. she was an incredible friend, and was so talented and passionate about her work, too! i wish i'd gotten to talk to her again in recent years. she was definitely a shining light to anyone who knew her.
