COLD SPRING, NY - James F. Milano, Jr., 32, of Cold Spring, NY died Monday, June 17, 2013, at home. James was born on August 30, 1980 in Poughkeepsie, NY to James F. Milano, Sr., and Nilda Rivera. He was a graduate of Spackenkill High School, Dutchess County BOCES, Dutchess Community College with an AAS, and Marist College with a BS, and was finishing his MSW in Social Work at Adelphi University at the end of the summer. James had enrolled in a PhD. Program at Capella University to begin in the fall. Given his previous military experience as an officer (US Army, HHC 1-505 PIR, 3BCT, 82nd Airborne Division) he volunteered regularly with retired veterans to help integrate them into the VA System. He had interned at the PRRC Program, VA, Hudson Valley System in Montrose, NY and was very proud that he developed and put together a booklet on Veterans information, benefits, forms and entitlements and gave a class on booklet and programs to the Staff of PRRC. James had also interned with the Hudson River Community Health Care in Peekskill, NY. He was also involved with aiding retired veterans at their homes, The SHACK Neighborhood House in Pursglove, WV and the Adopt a Vet Program in Coatesville, PA. James served in the US Army 82nd Airborne as a Sergeant during Operation Iraqi Freedom and received the following honors; two Purple Hearts, two US Army Commendation Medals, OIF V and VI, US Army Good Conduct Medal, US Army Achievement Medal, Global War on Terrorism, National Defense and the Iraq Campaign Medals, Army Combat Action Badge (CAB) and Combat Action Patch, Members of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Association of the US Army, The American Legion, DAV and 82nd Airborne Division Associations and was awarded the Foreign Egyptian Paratrooper Jump Wings after training with an Egyptian Special Forces Unit. James was honorably discharged on December 2, 2009. James is survived by his mother Nilda Rivera of Poughkeepsie, NY, his father James F. Milano, Sr. of Poughkeepsie, NY and his wife Nora Escamilla, his maternal grandparents Louis and Nilda Rivera, his paternal grandmother Julie Milano, his daughter Annabella Sophia Milano and her mother Janice DeNagy of Rye, NY, his brother Michael L. Milano of Charleston, SC, brother Joseph W. Milano of Poughkeepsie, NY, his sister N. Michelle Milano of Poughkeepsie, NY. and his girlfriend Karen Madsen of Cold Spring. Also surviving is his Aunt Jen and Uncle Dee who were like a brother and sister to him, as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins. James was predeceased by his brother Mark J. Milano on October7, 2006 and his grandfather Frank Milano. Calling hours will be held on Friday, June 21, 2013 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at the William G. Miller & Son Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, June 22, 2013 at 9:30am at St. Martin de Porres Church, 118 Cedar Valley Rd., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603.
