Louis S. Holtman

Poughkeepsie, NY - Louis S. Holtman, 83 years old, of Poughkeepsie, died peacefully at home on April 30, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. Lou was born in New York City on October 10, 1930 to Louis A. Holtman and Emma T. Kovac Holtman.

He graduated from Jamaica High School and RCA Institute of Technology in Manhattan. In 1956, he married Virginia Dullahan at St. Andrew Avellino in Flushing, N.Y. and moved to Poughkeepsie N.Y. to join IBM, where Lou worked for 30 years as an Advisory Engineer until his retirement in 1987. He traveled for IBM across the country and to England, Spain, France, Italy, Japan, and Canada. He served with the Army in the Korean War as a sergeant with the 17th Infantry Regiment-7th Division. He was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge and a Bronze Star.

He was a co-founder of the Dutchess County ARC and served as president of the Board of Directors for 20 years. He also worked with Habitat for Humanity. Lou was a Cub Scout leader, Life member of the New Hamburg Yacht Club, member of the Lloyd Rod and Gun Club and member of St. Mary's Church, Wappingers Falls.

Lou loved his family and always put them first. He enjoyed reading, wood working, target shooting, and boating on the Hudson River on the Irish Mist III and on the Champlain Canal.

He is survived by his loving wife and four sons; James, at home, Daniel and Deborah of Poughkeepsie, Stephen and Susanne of Hopewell Junction, Michael and Jill of Red Hook, N.Y.. Also much loved grandchildren: Emily, Brian, Michael, Sarah, and Laura.

He was predeceased by his parents and brother Robert and his sister Priscilla.

Friends may call at the Delehanty Funeral Home 64 E. Main St., Wappingers Falls, Sunday 7 to 9 PM.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Monday at 10:00 AM at St. Mary's Church, Clinton St., Wappingers Falls.
