Johnson City: Walter Gulachok, 85 passed away at home and reunited with his late wife of 61 years, Mary on Thursday evening, May 10, 2012. Besides his wife he was predeceased by a son, Matt Gulachok. He is survived by two daughters, Cher Gulachok of Florida, and Julene Gulachok of Johnson City; his son, Mark Gulachok of Johnson City; six grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, also nieces and nephews. Walter was an active member of St. John Ukrainian Orthodox Church and it's center, where he spent many hours in the kitchen with his wife. Walter and his wife, Mary operated the Oasis Restaurant in Johnson City for over thirty years. He was a Navy veteran of WWII serving in the Pacific Theatre. He was a member of the Johnson City American Legion Post #758, the V.F.W. Post #2332 the Johnson City Elks Club, Bill Flynn's Polka Club and the Johnson City Northside Social Club.

A funeral service will be offered by Rev. Zinoviy Zharsky on Tuesday 10 am at St. John Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 1 St. John's Parkway, Johnson City. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Rev. Zharsky will conduct a prayer service Monday 6:30 pm at the Chopyak-Scheider Funeral Home, 326 Prospect St. Binghamton where the family will receive friends Monday 5-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Walter's memory to either his church or to the .
