Richard W. Grove Richard "Dick" W. Grove, 84, of Chambersburg, passed away on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at the Chambersburg Hospital. He was born December 5, 1929 in Stoufferstown, PA, the son of the late Norman Wilbur and Annie Ella (Wingerd) Grove. Dick was a member of the Amvets Post 224 and lifelong member of the Charles Nitterhouse Post #1599 V.F.W. He served in the US Air Force and was present during the Berlin Airlift. Dick was past President and an active umpire for the Chambersburg Softball Association. He was an avid sports fan and loved all the Detroit (Lions, Tigers, Pistons, Red Wings) teams and attended numerous football and baseball games, including the World Series of 1984. He also loved Notre Dame and attended many Notre Dame football games as well. Additionally, Dick was a staunch supporter of Scotland School for Veterans Children. He attended all of his children's sporting events as well as other sporting events supporting all of the children at Scotland. He is survived by his children, Joy Smith, Darryl, Jacquelyn, Ronald (wife Nancy), Jerry and Terry Grove; grandchildren, Trisha and Kayla Grove, Gary Sr. (wife Leah) and Terry Smith, Jane Auchmoody; great-grandchildren, Modena, Gary Jr, Steven and Devin Smith; great-great-grandchild, Izaiah Lopez; three sisters, Betty Miller, Helen Jacobs, Patricia Adams; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Louse (Bryan) Grove; son, Donald J. Grove; brother, Robert Grove; and three sisters, Janet West, Dorothy Sherbourne and Barbara Kriechbaum. The funeral service will be held 1 p.m. on Thursday at the WF Sellers Funeral Home with Pastor Andy Ficks officiating. There will be a visitation two hours prior to the service. Burial will be in Norland Cemetery with Military honors provided by the Charles Nitterhouse post #1599 V.F.W. Honor Guard.
