Frank Leslie Griffith Obituary
Frank Leslie Griffith

Frank Leslie Griffith passed peacefully on April 7th, in Reno, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Chicago, Illinois, in 1927, to Anna Lenore Nylen and Frank Leslie Griffith and grew up in Highland Park.

His family relocated to Auburn, California in the 1940's, where he attended Placer Union High School. He began his college education at Northwestern, then returned to Menlo Park, California, graduating from Menlo College, after serving in the Army during the Second World War.

He spent 40 dedicated years in research and development, and was highly respected in his field when he retired in 1985. He raised his family in Los Altos, California before retiring to Reno, Nevada.

Griff, as his friends and family called him, was a devoted and tireless advocate for the wilderness. He and his wife and children enjoyed the mountain home which he designed and built, bordering the wilderness in Silver lake, Lassen County. He was active in the National Forest Homeowners Association for 40 years.

Griff had been an active volunteer at the Marine Mammal Center, in Sausalito, California, for many years, and was instrumental in the successful rescue of Humphrey the Whale.

He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of many years, Patricia Robinson Griffith, and sister, Leslie Ann Griffith Sproul, and children, Bob [Tess], Kay[Martin} and Matt and his grandchildren, Vanessa, Mia,Casey [Emily] and Olivia. Also, he had many loving nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.

No services scheduled, at Griff's request. Everyone who knew him will miss his strong, yet gentle nature. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to MarineMammalCenter.org.
