Ronald "Ronnie" Mattos

My loving husband and soul mate Ronald "Ronnie" Mattos, 66, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at the Reno VA Community Living Center under the care of VA Hospice. He was surrounded by his loving wife Joann, his cousin Ben and wife Ruth Nalua Manaois, and friend Debbie Leukhardt.

Mr. Mattos was born on April 24, 1948, in Honolulu, Hawaii. He was a Sargent proudly serving in the US Air Force during the Vietnam War. He and his wife Joann of 40 years made their home on Maui then later moved to Sparks, Nevada where he continued to work as a heavy equipment operator. He was a member of Operating Engineers Local Union No.3, Northern Nevada.

Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, December 15, 2014 at 3:30pm at St. Therese "The Little Flower" Church, located at corner of Kietzke and E. Plumb Lane in Reno, Nevada. His ashes will be taken back to Maui to be scattered out at sea.

Mr. Mattos was predeceased by his father and mother, Teddy and Carlina Betty Mattos; and is survived by his loving wife, Joann; daughter, Alison (Mattos) Pagan; son, Casey Mattos; sister, Cynthia Rust; brother, Glen Mattos; stepbrother, Ted Mattos, Jr.; grandchildren, Sydnee Pagan, Wayne Pagan III, Ezekiel Pagan and Kauhi'imakaokalani Mattos.

Small reception to follow Mass from 4:30pm to 5:45pm in the Monsignor Bowling Hall, adjacent to the church. Aloha Attire requested.

The family extends its deepest gratitude to the Doctors and Nursing staff at the Reno VA Community Living Center for their loving and compassionate care in his final days.

Donations are greatly appreciated in lieu of flowers. Envelopes and cards will be provided.

Hi Joann, it is so hard to believe that Ronnie is not here anymore. We hung around together from 7th grade through high school and it was always so much fun to be around him. My prayers are with you and your Ohana. I will always cherish his infectious smile. Please take care and God Bless.
