Eugene R. "Butch" Nugent, 63

St. Cloud

April 24, 1950 - Dec. 17, 2013

Mass of Christian Burial will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, December 20, 2013 at St. Augustine's Catholic Church in St. Cloud for Eugene R. "Butch" Nugent, age 63 of St. Cloud who passed away Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at the St. Cloud Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Reverend Anthony Oelrich will officiate. Interment will take place at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, Little Falls.

Family and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud and after 12:30 p.m. on Friday at the church in St. Cloud.

Butch was born April 24, 1950 in St. Cloud, Minnesota to Eugene and Lorraine "Dolly" (Gasperlin) Nugent. He was a United States Army Veteran of the Vietnam War serving in the 9th Infantry Division and was awarded the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Vietnamese Civil Actions Medal with Oak Leaf, two Purple Heart Medals, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device, Vietnam Service Medal with 1 Bronze Service Star, National Service Medal and Combat Infantryman Badge. Butch married Gloria J. Ferkinhoff on November 25, 1981 in St. Cloud. He received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology with a Minor in History and later a Master of Arts Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from St. Cloud State University. He was employed by the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center counseling Vietnam Veterans with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Butch was a member of St. Augustine's Parish, East Side Veteran of Foreign Wars Post #4847, Sauk Rapids American Legion Post #254, Disabled American Veterans, Order of the Purple Heart Chapter #9 and Vietnam Veterans of America.

Butch enjoyed spending time at the cabin on Fish Trap Lake, fishing, hunting, golfing, his 25 year poker group and his dog "Lilly". He especially enjoyed spending time with Gloria, Tracey, Jeremy and his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Gloria; daughter, Tracey (Jeremy) Lommel of St. Cloud; father, Eugene of St. Cloud; brothers, Dan (Susie) of Waite Park and Patrick "Punky" of St. Cloud; sisters, Kim (Ron) Keller of St. Cloud and Lisa (John) Oehrlein of St. Cloud; and "Little Brother", Gary Dietman of St. Joseph.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Lorraine "Dolly"; and his sister-in-law, Robin Nugent.

Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
