Nels Krawchuk, 78, Palisade MN passed away December 20, 2013 with his wife at his side after a courageous battle with cancer.

Nels was born December 9, 1935 in Lancaster MN, the son of William and Mary (Sandul) Krawchuk. He was raised on the family farm and attended school in Hallock, MN.

He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1961. Nels enjoyed a successful career supporting various healthcare facilities and retired as the physical plant director of Anoka-Metro Regional Treatment Center in 2001.

Nels was passionate about the nature around us. He was extremely proud to be a scoutmaster of his son Scott's Boy Scout troop #11. There he could share the beauty of our natural world through camping and various trips to Many Point Scout Camp, Rum River Campgrounds and many other canoe, snow shoeing, and fishing trips.

On October 15, 2005 he entered holy matrimony with Pam Orth. As a husband and a friend he gave love, devotion, and a caring touch each and every day without exception. Together they enjoyed deer hunting, traveling (especially short trips along the north shore). They especially enjoyed casinos, auctions, and playing cards. He loved to play his guitar, feed, observe and photograph all wildlife.

Nels was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church, Palisade Super Sledders, and, VFW Post 6992. For the last 31 years, he was a proud mentor and member of Alcoholics Anonymous.

Nels is survived by the love of his life Pam, his son Scott (Karen) Krawchuk, Aitkin MN, Stepchildren: Ed (Chris) Emerson, Waite Park, MN, Steven Emerson, Monticello MN, BJ (Brian) Miller, Charleston SC, TJ Emerson, Rice MN. Grandchildren: Ali Krawchuk, Mpls MN, Mackenzie Krawchuk, Aitkin, MN. Step-grandchildren: Taylor and Tiffany Emerson, Rice, MN, Brittany, Brandian and Brodee Emerson, Waite Park, MN. Great-grandson: Julian Krawchuk, Mpls MN. Brothers and Sisters; Pete (Linda), St Petersburg, FL, John (Linda), Lancaster, MN, Rose Cerkowniak, Lancaster, MN, Kate Molley, Chicago, IL, Avis Lowe, TX, Delores (Lynn) Carter, TX, and many special friends.

Memorial services will be held at Camp Ripley Chapel in Little Falls, MN on Friday, December 27, 2013 at 2:30PM followed by a celebration of his life at The VFW Post #1112, 1210 3rd Ave N, Little Falls, MN 56345.
