Mrs. Scales was a pillar of the creative community. She inspired many African American youth to explore music and she was a champion of excellence. Her recitals were an annual event where music was showcased with pride. Mrs. Scales was also a member of Cosmopolitan Baptist Church and Ricardo was the Minister of Music for many years. She planted the seeds of music to many and I can only imagine the lives she changed during her journey in this life.

Patience Scales or BABYJOE as my husband REMOUS BARNES called her was a beautiful and gracious as well as prestigious woman. She lived a full and blessed life.. My husband really adored her. He had a special long visit with her before his passing with first cousin James Barnes. I wish all of the family condolences. God be with you all. I could not attend because of health issues. My thoughts in spirit are with you all.

Peace and blessings to the Scales family. Your mother was a pillar of the Lakeview community and a foundation of the arts to black children. She celebrated the arts and allowed our children to showcase their talents in the Opera House, a space often reserved for the San Francisco elite. She planted the seed of excellence in our children that they were diamonds in the rough. She nurtured their spirits and inspired many to greatness. Her living spirit will live forever. May she Rest In Peace. Hollis Pierce-Jenkins
