Hempen, Raymond passed away on March 21, 2014 in Naples, Florida. He was 93 years old. Born in St. Louis, Missouri to Theodore and Louise Hempen, Ray graduated from St. Louis University in 1941. He enlisted in the U. S. Navy in 1941 and advanced to the rank of Lieutenant by the end of the war. He served in the Pacific as a pilot in the Black Cat Squadron, flying PBY missions out of Guadalcanal. Ray and Marguerite (Peg) married at Alameda NAS, California on August 9, 1945. They were devoted to each other during a 55-year marriage. They returned to St. Louis after the war. Ray became a CPA and worked 33 years at J. D. Streett and Co., retiring as Executive Vice President in 1984. Ray and Peg moved to Florida in 1984, where Ray served his community as treasurer of many organizations, loved to play golf and was an outstanding bridge player to the end. Ray enjoyed life and was dearly loved by his extended family and many friends. Ray was preceded in death by his beloved wife Peg in 2000. Also preceding him in death were his sister, Laverne Lueken, of Affton, and his brother, Robert and sister-in-law Helen Hempen, of O'Fallon He is survived by his daughter Janet (Dennis) Vasey of Naples, FL; his son Mark (Beverly) Hempen of Bonita Springs, FL; his brother Ted (Bev) Hempen of House Springs, MO, and his brother-in-law Raymond Lueken of Affton, MO. Ray is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their families. Services: A memorial mass will be celebrated at St. Leo's Catholic Church in Bonita Springs, FL.
