Rex Duggar Obituary

Rex Duggar - SAVANNAH - Rex Duggar, 65, passed away March 3, 2009 at his home at the Landings in Savannah, Georgia. He was a native of Pembroke, Ga., son of the late Barney Leland Duggar and the late Ruby Barnard Duggar, having lived the past 44 years in Savannah. Mr. Duggar was a professional artist and was well-known for his picturesque seascapes, historical landscapes and particularly for his detailed character studies. He was nationally recognized with many of his paintings having hung in the personal collections of noted people such as President & Mrs. Ronald Reagan, President & Mrs. Jimmy Carter, Red Skelton, Senator Barry Goldwater, Kris Kristoferson, and others. Rex's love of the Georgia coast and nature, in all of its forms, were reflected not only in his artwork but in his personal life. He was an avid naturalist who enjoyed observing and sharing his enthusiasm for his surroundings with those around him. His gentle soul attracted not only the people he cultivated in his life but also resonated with any animals he encountered. Rex's kind manner was balanced by a keen wit and an infectious sense of humor. He served in the United States Army in Germany during the Berlin Conflict. Upon returning he worked as a banker for several years before turning a passion for art into his career. He is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Sherry Edenfield Duggar and cherished daughter, Anne Marie Bennett. He is also survived by an aunt, Peggy Butler, four sisters-in-law including Mrs. Lois Duggar (wife of the late Gene Duggar), Mrs. Marlene Hill (husband Lewis Hill), Mrs. Suzanne Crawford (husband Ralph Crawford) and Mrs. Patti Phillips (wife of the late Donald Phillips) as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many treasured friends from throughout his lifetime. He was predeceased by his parents, sister Betty Sloan and brothers Gene Duggar and Bobby Duggar. He was a tender soul that truly loved his family and friends, was sincerely loved in return and will be forever missed. Mr. Duggar was cremated and plans for the Memorial Service will be announced. Aunt Sherry and Ann Marie,

You are and have been in my thoughts and prayers over the last week. Although we don't see each other as much as before, I cherish the times we did spend with all of you and all the good times we had. It's been a rough year for all of us and but with time and lots of prayers, we will get through this too. I love yall and am here for you if you need me.

Sherry: I was the Auditor of SAVANNAH BANK & TRUST and Rex was in my department. I encouraged Rex to get out of banking and become a full time artist. I am pleased that he took that advise and had a wonderful successful career as an artist. His works will live on.
