Cecil Owen "Cooter" Simmons, born March 15, 1926, passed away on May 1, 2013, in Shreveport, LA after a brief illness.

Funeral services will be held at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Logansport, LA on Friday, May 3, 2013, at 2:00pm with Dan Shaddock, Paul Hayes, and Mervin Scott officiating, followed by burial at Deadwood United Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Rose-Neath Funeral Home Southside in Shreveport, LA on May 2, 2013, from 5-7pm. There will also be visitation in Logansport from 10:00 until service time on Friday.

Cooter, as he was affectionately called, attended Fair Park High School where he was active in ROTC. He then went to work for the Shreveport Fire Department before joining the United States Coast Guard. After serving his country, he returned to work for the Fire Department where he followed in his father's footsteps to become Assistant Chief Master Mechanic. He retired after 33 years of service. Cooter was active in Queensborough Baptist Church for many years, where he was one of a group of young men called the "Dirty Dozen" and was a faithful member of Deadwood United Methodist Church at the time of his death. He loved his church family and singing in the choir.

Cooter was preceded in death by his parents, Roscoe Odell Simmons and Irma Dotson Simmons. He is survived by his loving wife Billie P. Simmons of Logansport, LA, daughter Cynthia Terral of Shreveport LA, son Cecil Owen Simmons, Jr. of Ruston, LA, stepdaughter Cathy Cammarosano of Mandeville, LA, sister Margie Hearn and husband Dr. Robert of Ruston, LA, grandson Shane Terral and wife Courtney of Shreveport, LA, great-grandsons Caleb and Caden Terral, nieces and nephews and many dear friends.

Pallbearers will be Shane Terral, Alex Kosmer, Eric Kosmer, Bryan Pope, Jeremy Pope, Bob Hearn, Ken Hendrickson, Butch Marsalis, Greg Burns, Jerry Coxen, and Ethen McMillan.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Deadwood United Methodist Church or Deadwood Cemetery Association.
