Michael Patrick "Mic" MANER Obituary
MANER, Michael Patrick "Mic"

Maner, Michael Patrick "Mic", 57, of Austin, died Wednesday July 2nd from injuries due to a tragic traffic collision. Born April 12th, 1957 to Patty and Raymond "Peavine" Maner in San Antonio, Mic was raised in Tyler, Texas with his beloved younger brother Matthew "Matt" Maner. Growing up, Mic was an avid Longhorn fan, a love he inherited from his dad and which became a lifelong passion that only deepened after enrolling at The University of Texas at Austin. While in college, Mic met his first wife, Jane Dixon, and they were married soon after, on September 3rd, 1981. Mic graduated from UT with a BA in Mathematics the following year. After graduation, Mic remained in the Austin area and on July 16th, 1985 he was blessed with the birth of his only child, Miles Maner.

Mic's work and curiosity carried him far and wide in the following years, from England to Minnesota and beyond, but a piece of his heart never left Austin and he soon returned for good. In 1996 he met Sharon Rickert, and they were married early the following year, January 27th, 1997. With this marriage, his family grew as he brought Sharon's three children, James, Jacob and Allison Pope, into his life. Mic's love was boundless, and he immediately welcomed this addition and never stopped loving and caring for his stepchildren as his own.

Mic was a hard worker who was successful and highly regarded wherever he went, spending time working at Continuum Company, BMC Software, as CTO of Fiserv, at MD Totco, and Bioware, before finally returning to BMC. Still, as hard as Mic worked, he never let work consume him. Mic's first priority was always his family and friends, and then his many passions. Whether it was motorcycling with his wife, traveling, running, listening to music and attending shows, or cheering his beloved Longhorns, Mic was always pursuing his passions and living life to the fullest. Mic's compassion and obvious love of life was infectious and everywhere he went he gained lifelong friends. His love and wisdom will be missed by many.

Mic was preceded in death by his father Raymond Maner, and is survived by his loving wife, Sharon Maner, son, Miles, mother and stepfather, Patty and Stan Sims, brother, Matt, stepchildren, James, Jacob, and Allison, ex-wife, Jane Dixon, and countless friends. A memorial and celebration of Mic's life will be held Saturday, July 12th at 3:30PM at NXNW Restaurant and Brewery, in Austin, Texas, his own personal "Cheers".
