Mickey Spence Obituary
SPENCE, Mickey Robert Mickey Robert Spence, age 61, passed from this life into the loving arms of Jesus on December 6, 2018. He was born April 16, 1957 in Brenham, TX to Aubrey Lee and Shirley Jean Spence. Mickey spent his life as a public servant. He worked for several Texas law enforcement agencies. His most rewarding assignment during his almost 30-year career was his time as a canine handler with Wharton County Sherriff's Department and as a school resource officer with Travis County Sheriff's Department. Mostly because it allowed him to work with two of his passions-animals and young people. He had an amazing gift with both. Mickey was also an avid hunter and outdoorsmen. In recent years, he took great joy in introducing and taking children and their parents hunting through the Texas Youth Hunting Program. He was very passionate about this organization and helped set up several hunts a year for the kids. Mickey was also a big believer in the benefits of 4-H and FFA; he was a big supporter of the Travis County Youth Show. He is preceded in death by his father, Aubrey Spence and step-father, Wesley Scott. He is survived by his mother, Shirley Scott; step-mother, Charlotte Spence; two brothers, Randy and wife Connie, Allen and wife Allison. Mickey is also survived by his loving wife, Glenda and his daughter, Codi, his greatest pride and joy. The family will welcome guests for visitation 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Monday, December 10 at First Baptist Church in Dripping Springs. Funeral Services will follow 10:00 am on Tuesday December 11 at First Baptist Church, interment to follow at Fitzhugh Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any memorial contributions be made to Cowboy Church of the Hill Country or the Travis County Youth Show.
