Matt... You and I have mutual friends. Although I did not know you personally I did take a shot in your honor at Iggy's house party the day after you passed away... It sort of ended up being a party in your honor which I am thankful to have been invited to. From all the stories everyone was talking about you... You seemed like a real stand-up guy and someone I would have liked to have been friends with.

Now in retrospect I am realizing that you were the cashier at Whole Foods I talked to about surfing. I am in there quite often and have not seen you there in a while. Now I know why...You were Matt "Lat" from Iggy's house party.

Rest in peace my friend!

Dear Chip, Barbara, and Ben, Grandmama told me about Matthew's accident as soon as Uncle John dropped me off at home after VBS. Matt died doing what he loved. He was happy and having a good time. It's like Dad used to say before he died. "Endubity, Benigity, and Resurrection and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever." Have a good week. I love y'all.

Dear Latimer Family,
I am truly sorry to hear of your loss, however, it is true that Matt will live on in so many hearts and minds in a positive and bright light. I met Matt years ago, while working at a local veterinary hospital. His natural ability to connect and bring joy to the animals and their people was immediately evident in the short time we worked together. When I recognized him months later at the best natural food market around, Whole Foods, he greeted me with a big smile, which just made my day. What a fine young man, what a great life lived, touching so many with kindness. Bless you, bless Matthew, and may we truly know him as an example of compassion, empathy, brilliance, and spirit: here's to a life well-lived.

Dear Latimer Family:
Matt touched so many lives in his short life, and yesterday, at the memorial service, you made sure he had an opportunity to keep on doing that. As his professor first, and after he completed my speech class, his friend in working to save our beautiful Florida coastlines, it was an honor to have been part of his circle. Matt's curiosity, passion for doing things ethically, and sincere belief that everyone has some good in them is a reflection of the beautiful family he is part of. You are amazing - and he is too.

Dear Latimer Family. I do not remember a single occasion when Matt wasn't donning a smile. He was such a bright light who shed happiness and joy always. Today's celebration of Matt's life was so poignant and so beautiful. I know I am a better person having crossed paths with your wonderful son. May God bless you all and guide you through this journey here on earth without Matt in the physical. His spirit surrounds us always. Love, Jenn Staley (Whole Foods Boca Raton)

My dearest Chip, Barbara and Ben,
As we have, and the unfortunate parents and siblings before us; you must now learn to bear the unbearable. Life goes on even when we don't want it to.
In November, when we lost our beloved surfer child, Frankie, we found this. I hope it helps.

A Surfer's Prayer
Now that I am beyond peril, Commend me not on land,in soil, to dirt, fuel for worms and the earth's corruption.
Lay me down in the bosom of the stormy sea in the grip of Poseidon's frenzy. Let your tears swell the tide that bear the craft aloft to fair winds and the quay side.
Let my coffin fall past the watchful eye of sharks to join those who fell before.
Sailors, pirates, mermaids and all who ride upon the spray.
Fire the Bofors gun;
Once for my life
Once for my love
Once for my lord
Once for my soul lost on the cresting wave.

Matt's soul was joined with the ocean which he loved, as Frankie did. Surfers souls have a special bond and now his and Frankie's are forever with the sea.

With love and understanding,
Teresa and Frank

Chip, you've been a part of my life since I moved here 20 years ago. You took me in, and gave me my start in my new life, mentored me, and treated me in the classic Latimer style. With Love, Respect, and genuine friendship. Your family has been, and always will be in my heart. There are so many people who I've talked to in the last week who knew Matt and had real affection for him. I didn't realize that Matt spent a lot of time at my next door neighbors house, who is also a devoted surfer. That his spirit touched everyone he met is testament
to the enormous amount of love in the Latimer family. I wish you all the peace and love there can be at a time like this.

I remember the first time I met Matt, it was Nov 5, 2007. He walked in to Whole Foods Market in Boca to be interviewed for a cashier position. It took me a moment to know that I wanted to hire him, the more he spoke the more I saw him fitting in our family. He was a perfect match. His great attitude, warm personality and willingness to help anyone with a problem will never be forgotten.

To Matt’s Family, I’m deeply sorry for your loss and pray that his spirit will see you through. Matthew will never be forgotten and his smiling face will always remain on my mind.

Until we meet again.

Dear Chip and Family,

I am sad to say I did not have the pleasure of meeting your son Matthew. It sounds like he had such a beautiful spirit. I did not know he worked at Whole Foods. For all the times I was in the store I must have seen him a hundred times without knowing that he was your son. I am at a loss for words to express of such a terrible tragedy. We tend to forget how fragile life is through all our busyness and in a blink of an eye it can be changed forever. Fortunately we are given the gift of having all those stored up memories to hang on to and to cherish. Our thoughts are with you and your family.

I am just heartbroken over the loss of Matt. Both of you are in my thoughts. This shows that in the midst of my difficult time now something so unexpected and severe happened that I was able to put what I am going through in perspective-and see how small it may seem when looked at through a different light. I was on the beach the day your son passed away. My two sons and I watched as your son and his friend came down to the water with great big smiles on their faces. Your son looked so happy!!! His face was lit up with such pleasure. My youngest son Ethan couldn't take his eyes off of your son. He was in such awe. I kept watching them and was amazed at how well they could surf. Ethan stayed around them and eventually asked them "Hi! Are the waves good?' and your son responded with "Hi! No they aren't." The current kept taking them up the coast. And that was the last time I saw them.
I wanted you to know that Matthew was so happy that day. He was truly enjoying himself. I had thought about taking a picture of them, but I am so sorry that I didn't.
I am so sorry for the loss of your son. I can not imagine the pain you must be feeling. Please accept my deepest sympathies.

To Matt's Beloved Family:

Your son, brother, was an incredible man. His smile was completely infectious, and his radiating love for life and the ocean could put a smile on anyone's face. He's a great loss to the Delray Beach community. Please know that he's an angel that watches over you everyday. I feel blessed to have known him.

This last week ive been continually thinking of all the different memories we had growing up..from hanging in the hood, playing baseball in the street, to jumping off bridges, the many soccer games at miller field, all the mornings we rode in felix’s old blue car to my first days of boca high, that summer you crashed my scooter and all the nights on atlantic ave…looking back it seems like every moment was full of laughter and good times. haha... Your excitement about life and love for people brought a positive vibe to everyone that walked in your path. You had more friendships and experienced more happy moments in your 22 years than most people have in their 85 years of life. I thank God for each moment we had together and im looking forward to seeing ya in heaven! I miss ya and love you man.

Dear Barbara, Chip and Ben,

Years have passed since our sons' graduations from SRCS. Then one day at the checkout counter at Whole Foods a gentle spirited young man said remember me? Matt's charismatic personality had not changed. His positive energy and loving nature eminated in all his interactions. Last week, upon returning from our summer vacation I looked for Matt at the checkout counter and did not see him. I subsequently heard of his passing. Our hearts ache. Our prayers are with all of you.

I met Matt when he was very young and came to see his mother and I in SHEAR MADNESS. I was blessed to watch him grow into a beautiful young man and find his way in the world. My heart is breaking for Barbara , Ben and Chip. Matt had so much more to give the world, and we will have to find the strength to go on without him. With deepest sympathy, Margot Moreland

To the Latimer Family,

You have my sincere condolences. May the comfort of God help you during this difficult time. Words do an injustice in explaining how much we will miss him. He will remain very much alive in our memories and hearts.
Matt was such a pleasure to work with, and I feel blessed to have known such an amazing, warm-hearted person.

You will forever remain in my prayers...

I didn’t know Matthew, but I was also on the beach that day with my dad. I’m a fellow surfer, so I was admiring Matthew and his friend as they happily rode waves on that beautiful day. My dad and I send our prayers to his family, just as we did to Matthew that day.

Dear Barbara, Chip, and Ben,

We are at a loss for words but please know that we love you and pray for you. We are so greatful to have had the happy times when you brought the boys to SC to visit and the children were able to play together. I was able to view some of the pictures from those visits with the children together at B avenue as well as at Momma's with the horses Those will be treasured memories. I also remember the shower at Momma's house. The anticipation of the birth of this precious child brought sunshine into our own greiving hearts. God bless you and keep you and give you His peace that passes all understanding.

Barbara, Chip, and Ben,
I haven't stopped thinking about you and praying for you since hearing of Matt's passing. Matt was a ray of light to all those around him, so full of life and love. He was the perfect example of someone who took great pleasure in all of life's simple treasures, enjoying his days working, surfing and inspiring all those around him to stop and smell the roses. Christian and our family extend our deepest sympathies and find comfort in knowing that he is in heaven. May God bless you, and keep you forever in his grace.

To The Family of Matthew Latimer,

Some souls pass through this lifetime like a gentle summer rain,
They touch our hearts and then return to heaven once again,
Even as we mourn this loss of Matt, we know within our hearts that those we love are never really gone,
For, even as this earthly life comes to its season's end, the soul goes forth and lightly journeys on.

Matts' personality was awesome he brought i smile to everyone he can across.
My condolences
