Robert W. Barclay Obituary
Robert W. Barclay
Robert W. Barclay, 80, of Lehighton, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2018, at St. Luke's Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital in Lehighton.
Born in Lehighton, he was a son of the late Thomas G. and Margaret (McCor-mack) Barclay.
Bob was a graduate of the legendary Class of 1955. He and his fellow '55 alumni, regularly and proudly, celebrated the 'good old' days.
Born and raised in Lehighton, Bob spent time at East Stroudsburg University before enlisting in the United States Army where he served from 1957-1959.
Bob was a proud and valued member of Erie Insurance group for 35 years. During his time at Erie, he was well known as a fierce negotiator, always representing both Erie and his clients fairly.
Bob was a passionate Eagles fan (win or lose), enjoyed Penn State victories, and regularly found frustration watching the Phillies. He was also a long time member of Beaver Run Rod and Gun Club and Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Ultimately, Bob found his most enjoyment through sports. In his youth, it was as center and a nose tackle for the Leighton Indians football team during the leather helmet days. As an adult, it was as a spectator watching his son and grandsons play the same sports he played. For a large part of his life, he also found peace in woodworking where he consistently said, "Measure twice, cut once."
He was a loving father and grandfather and is survived by his children including, Wendy Hauser, and her husband, Jim, of Franklin Township, Lori Andreine, and her husband, David, of Elmira, N.Y,, Kelly Flanagan, and her husband, John, of Middletown, Va., and Michael Barclay, and his wife, Kristin, of Virginia Beach, Va.; grandchildren: Mitch and Michael Pados, Mylee Hauser, Garret and Ali Andreine, John Michael and Jack Flanagan, Chase and Greer Barclay; ex-wife, Helaine Barclay; brothers: Richard of Lehighton, Ranny of Mahoning Township and predeceased by brother, Roddy.
Service: Private family services will be held at the convenience of the family. Schaeffer Funeral Home of Lehighton is in charge of arrangements and online condolences may be sent to www.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675-8517.
