Betty Jane Jones Obituary
Mrs. Betty Jane Jones
Mrs. Betty Jane Jones, 90, of Lehighton, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 4, 2018. She was the widow of John H. Jones.
Born on July 8, 1928, and raised in Lehighton, where she lived all her life, she was the sixth of nine children of the late Adam and Lulu (McFarl-and) Green.
Her home was a wel-coming place for all. Her spirit was fill-ed with acceptance, generosity and unconditional love. For years, she had taken care of all of the grandchildren and children in her neighborhood.
She was a friend and adopted family member to the Gaston family, whom she helped on the farm, cared for their children, and baked goodies for canning, baking pies and crafting fruit jellies. These were a few of her many Pennsylvania Dutch kitchen skills.
She loved having company and visitors from her neighborhood. She would feed each mouth that came through her door. Everyone was considered her family and treated equally. Even caretakers and doctors were sent home with cookies and baked goods.
In her final years, she was cared for by her children and her beloved granddaughter Dorothy. Her legacy of love remains in each of our hearts.
Surviving are her children, Mary Allen Callen (William) of Jim Thorpe, Edna Treible (Stanley) of Walnutport and Larry Jones (Susan) of Stroudsburg; a sister Edna, wife of Bernard Dunlap of Lehighton; six grandchildren, Rubin Zellner, Lt. Col. Dorothy Watkins , Rebecca Callen, Paul Treible and Marlo and Michael Jones; six great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by four sisters, Edith Bittner, Ida and Violet Steigerwalt and Dorothy Zuber; three brothers, Paul, Thomas and Adam Green Jr.; and a grandson, Jason Treible.
Service: At her request, the funeral services will be private. The Ovsak Funeral Home, 190 S. Fourth St., Lehighton, is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her name may be made to the . Online condolences can be offered at www.ovsakfh.com.
