Brian Kidd Obituary
Brian Thomas Kidd

Brian Thomas Kidd of Quincy, Florida, died suddenly at home on Friday, August 15, 2014 at the age of sixty-nine. He was born in Toronto Canada on April 25, 1945 to Thomas Brown Kidd and Jean Fletcher Smalley-Kidd, both of Toronto. Brian later prepared academically in Canada for a life of biological research, acquiring undergraduate and graduate degrees respectively at the University of Guelph in Guelph, Ontario, Canada and Carleton University in the Canadian capital of Ottawa, Ontario. His education afforded a lifetime of research opportunity in both Canada and the United States, first at the Fisheries Research Board of Canada in Ste. Anne de Bellevue, Quebec, followed by service to and later retirement from the North Florida Research & Education Center of Quincy, Florida, one of the largest research campuses of the University of Florida's Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences. Brian enjoyed a lengthy and exemplary career in his two neighboring countries in which he enjoyed citizenship, first in Canada then the US.

Brian's first years in Quincy were spent with his young son David, who he loved deeply, before later meeting Gwynn Peacock of Quincy whom he married in 1998 and sweetly loved throughout his life. The most recent addition to Brian's heart was the apple of his eye, grandson Haden Thomas Kidd, son of David and Allison Kidd of Gainesville, Florida who all survive Brian. Brian is also survived by his Canadian siblings, sister Diana Kidd-Bunnell and brother William James (Bill) Kidd, both of whom he cherished, along with his nieces and nephews in Canada as well. In addition, Brian is surely now enjoying reunion with his recently deceased brother Robert (Bob) David Kidd, also of Canada. The union with Gwynn instantly afforded a large and loving extended family in the form of Gwynn's son Jack Peacock (wife Greta) and daughters Jill Peacock King (husband Gordon, son Will Galloway), Penny Peacock O'Connell (husband Mark, son Ronnie Rentz, daughter Kaitlyn Rentz Lancaster) and Gaye Peacock Lashley (husband Jamey, daughter Mallory, son Pierce), all of Quincy and Tallahassee who lovingly referred to him as Papa..

A unique, caring, practical, reserved and diligent man of faith, Brian loved and studied all of creation. He was an avid outdoorsman… enjoying both fishing and hunting to no end, as well as FSU and professional sports and literature through favorites such as Cannery Row and Never Cry Wolf and authors Steinbeck, Molwat, Baldacci and Grisham in particular. In Brian's most loved of all books, the 32nd Psalm was his favorite. He will be sorely missed. A memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Quincy on Wednesday, August 20th at 11:00 a.m. with visitation at 10:00 a.m. Charles McClellan Funeral Home, Quincy, FL., (850) 627-7677, is in charge of arrangements. A private burial service will be conducted.
