Margaret McCrory Palmer

Margaret McCrory Palmer, age 89, passed away on Wednesday, February 13, 2013.

Margaret was born on November 22, 1923 in Colbert County , AL . She was the youngest of Robert Flautt McCrory and Blanche Stanley McCrory's three daughters. She married George Edwin Palmer of Florence , AL in 1941, and they moved to Tallahassee with their daughter, Gail Palmer Harris, in 1953. George was the great love of her life, and after his passing in 1975, rarely a day went by that she did not speak of him lovingly.

Margaret was a charter member of John Wesley United Methodist Church , the last living charter member of the Elkettes of Lodge #937, an active member of the Mimosa Garden Circle , and long-time treasurer for the Susanna Wesley Circle at John Wesley UMC. Margaret worked with her husband, George, at Gabor & Company, and also as a medical transcriptionist for the Florida Crippled Children's Clinic.

Margaret never missed a friend's or loved one's birthday, and faithfully sent cards and notes for all occasions. She had an amazing memory, kept meticulous notes on everyone, and could recite the history of every lot, home and family at her beloved Chain Lakes property with astounding detail. She loved to tell jokes, and she enjoyed recounting the trips she and George had taken together.

Margaret was devoted to her family. She is survived by her daughter, Gail Palmer Harris, her son-in-law Buz Harris, her grandchildren Wil Harris (Tiffany) of Panama City, FL, and Palmer Harris Coley (John) of Pike Road, AL; and one niece, Glenda Utley Couch of Decatur, AL. She also has five great-grandchildren: Jack and George Coley, and Anna, Molly, and Wilson Harris.

Funeral services will be held at John Wesley United Methodist Church at 1738 Old St . Augustine Road on Monday, February 18 at 11:00 am. Visitation for friends and family will take place one hour before the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Harry-Anna Trust Fund of the Elks Lodge, 276 N. Magnolia Drive , Tallahassee , FL 32301 .
