Nancy Pope Obituary
Nancy Kay Pope

Nancy Kay Pope - sister, aunt, friend, teacher, blue-ribbon baker, serious shopper, and one heck of a good shot - found eternal peace on Monday, October 14, 2013.

Nancy was part of that special breed of Southern lady who believed in living her life with strength, integrity, and above all, a sense of humor. She lived for her family and was a constant companion in celebrating the good, comforting the bad, and sharing in the crazy with a pitcher of sweet tea and a perfectly baked pound cake.

Her powerful laugh was matched only by her great generosity, and never having children of her own, she was devoted to her nieces and nephew. She taught them to cook like Southerners, drive stick shift at much too young an age, bait a line and gut a fish, properly shoot an armadillo, and how to attack a Gayfers Midnight Madness sale with the tactical strength of Napoleon Bonaparte. Together they travelled the world and got lost on the back-roads of Wakulla County.

While modest, she accomplished much. She was a graduate of Samford University, The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, The University of Georgia, and The Florida State University, and was a sister of the Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority. As a minister, elementary school teacher, guidance counselor, and Pre-K director, she helped raise multiple generations of children in Georgia, Alabama, and Florida - teaching them self-esteem, the value of hard work, and the unforgettable Duso the Dolphin song.

Her faith in the Lord was steadfast and she is undoubtedly celebrating a big heavenly homecoming with her mother and father, and the grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins that went before her. She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law - Wyatt and Jeanne Pope, and her nieces and nephew - Elisabeth Pope Barlow, Victoria Pope Runyon, and John Pope.

She wanted those she loved to celebrate her life, rather than mourn her passing. Notification of a celebratory wake for family and close friends will be provided at a later date, and she will be buried alongside her parents in Atlanta, Georgia.
