Tallahassee - Nell Smith Holloway Christie, 91, formerly of Ashburn, Georgia, died January 14, 2018, at her assisted living residence in Tallahassee, Florida, following a brief illness.

Mrs. Christie was predeceased by her husband, John Arthur Holloway, Jr., and her parents, Margaret and Homer Smith, all of Ashburn. She is survived by her husband, Frank Edward Christie, Tallahassee; a son, John Terry Holloway (Dorothy),Birmingham, Alabama; a daughter, Jan Holloway, Athens, Georgia ; a grandson, James Joshua Holloway (Krista), Birmingham; a granddaughter, Ann Blair Gribbin(Joe), Birmingham; seven great-grandchildren, Birmingham; a step-son, David Kaigler Christie III (Helen), Lake Harding, Alabama; a step-daughter, Jane Christie Tillman, Ochlockonee Bay, Florida; three step-grandsons, Justin King Tillman (Holly), Tallahassee, and Chandler Shannon Christie and Brandon Courtney Christie, LaGrange, Georgia;and a devoted family Friend, Libby Dasher, Tallahassee.

Born in Lake City, Florida in 1926, Nell's family relocated to Sycamore and Ashburn, Georgia, where Nell attended school and assisted her parents in the operation of the family-owned restaurant. In 1946, she married John Arthur Holloway and together they made their home in Ashburn where they were members of the First United Methodist Church and active leaders in many state and local professional and civic organizations. A fun-loving and vivacious woman, Nell had a wonderful life as a wife, mother and grandmother and enjoyed shopping and playing bridge with her friends; entertaining family and friends in her home; and traveling throughout the country, spending time in her many timeshare properties.

In 2002, she married Frank Edward Christie, a long-time family friend from Dawson, Georgia and Ochlockonee Bay, Florida, with whom she shared mutual friends and interests. During the 16 years of their marriage, Nell and Frank had a grand time splitting their time equally between their residences in Georgia and Florida. While they traveled extensively, they were especially dedicated to their Alligator Point Mission By The Sea Church-home where they shared their love of the Lord and music with family and friends. The Christies became residents of St. Augustine Plantation assisted living facility December 2016.
