Laura Kuhlmann Obituary
Laura Kuhlmann

Spreckels - November 3, 1945 to August 24, 2013. Her smile would light up a room. Laura was a treasure and inspiration to all she met. Her courage, strength and bravery in the seven years following her lung injury in 2006 were spiced by a verve for living and her wonderful ability to be optimistic in spite of the odds. She never complained. We shared these golden years traveling all over North America in our Casa de Moto, a diminutive motorhome equipped with multiple oxygen systems. The joy of exploration and discovery in our great land peaked with a trip along the entire length of the Mississippi River in 2010 and two months in Alaska in 2012.

Laura's medical team, headed by Mark Klein MD and the ICU unit of Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital, is truly superior. Their care and caring helped her survive the 2006 injury and made her last moments comfortable. We love them all.

Laura is survived by two daughters, Lisa Faulkner in Georgia and Catherine Kuhlmann in Colorado; two brothers, Edward M Colie III in South Carolina and Matthew Colie in Michigan; several generations of nephews and cousins and many many friends from all phases of her life. We were married 44 wonderful years. Her 2006 injury brought us closer than ever sharing her never look back attitude.

Laura graduated from Vermont College with a BS in Medical Technology. A 15 year career in the hospital laboratory at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City, University of Michigan and Kaiser Permanente in Walnut Creek yielded to motherhood. The last 15 years Laura was the CFO of Kuhlmann Packaging, Inc.

Our love goes out to all that enriched her life and cared so much about this very special woman. A celebration of life is planned for her birthday at 11 a.m. Sunday, November 3, 2013, at Spreckels School.

Dave Kuhlmann, Lisa Faulkner and Catherine Kuhlmann
