Robert S. Zavaski

Lansing - Robert Stephen Zavaski, 87, of Lansing, NY, passed away from complications related to COVID-19 on January 7, 2021, at the Hospicare residence, Ithaca, NY. Born on June 21, 1933, in Ithaca, he was the son of the late John and Julia (Sacco) Zavaski.

Bob attended Immaculate Conception Catholic School, was a graduate of Ithaca High School and proud of his roots growing up as a Rhiner. Following high school, Bob enlisted in the US Coast Guard in 1952 and was honorably discharged in 1956. He married his loving wife, Agnes Smith and they enjoyed 63 years together. Bob was employed by Agway Energy Products in Ithaca for 35 years until his retirement.

Bob loved woodworking, nature and being outdoors, but most of all, he loved spending time with his family. He was a natural caregiver and was always helping others. He was a communicant of All Saints Catholic Church in Lansing. He was involved with community blood drives at All Saints and with the All Saints Rosary Makers where he sent thousands of rosaries to missions all over the world. Bob was also a member of the Northeast Coast Guard Association.

In addition to his wife Agnes, Bob is survived by his children, Juliann (Philip) Nelson, Francine (Jeffery) Hayhurst, Gerard (Damita) Zavaski, and Regina (Wayne) Genung; grandchildren, Zachary (Alexandra) Nelson and Michaela (Elias) Fernandez, David and Victor Hayhurst, Alexander, Sarah and Emma Zavaski, and Nicole and Melissa Genung; and great-granddaughter, Sophia Nelson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Michael, John, Joseph, Stephen, George, Ann and Mary.

Bob was voted Best Father of the Year by his children for 62 consecutive years.

To Agnes, Juliann, and the rest of the family: Sorry to hear about Bob's passing. I remember when Juliann and my girls were palling back when we lived in Lansing. Always good guy! Condolences to the entire family.

Bob and his wife are wonderful people. He always had a smile on his face and he loved his wife dearly. This breaks my soul to hear of his passing and to know his family and wife are hurting deeply. Please know you will stay in my thoughts and prayers for a very long time.
